Hey everyone,

Let’s take a break from Faceball, and reflect on other Virtual Boy things. πŸ™‚

Having a Virtual Boy and 12 different games for a month and a half has changed my gaming habits. Nintendo console gaming on my bed? Sweet! πŸ™‚

I’ve also discovered many high quality and underrated classics on the system that don’t get much respect anywhere else. What is everyone’s favorite games on the little machine?

Here are the games I own

Wario Land
Mario Clash
Mario’s Tennis(x2)
Red Alarm
Galactic Pinball
Jack Bros(Japan)
Vertical Force(Japan)
Teleroboxer
V-Tetris
Virtual League Baseball
Golf
Panic Bomber

Now, of course, I do not own games such as Space Squash, Insmouse and 3D Tetris. Also, I am still expecting Bound High! in the mail, and eagerly waiting for Faceball, so my list could change.

Here is my list of favorite games to least favorite so far

1. Wario Land (kind of a cliche choice, but the Super Mario Bros. of the system. somewhat short, but if you take your time playing it, it’s a treat. great graphics. interesting tunes, and fun action. One of the best platformers ever made)

2. Galactic Pinball (the greatest pinball game ever made, really fun, lots of options and bonus, and 5 tables!! Metroid mini-game is great)

3. Red Alarm (better than Star Fox, really cool, wireframe awesome, excellent music and controls)

4. V-Tetris (best version of Tetris ever made, better than Gameboy version, very unique)

5. Panic Bomber (great puzzle game as well, I like it way better than real bomberman games)

6. Mario Clash (best Mario Bros. game ever, but too long and difficult)

7. Mario’s Tennis (better than N64 Mario’s tennis, very fun, double’s is great)

8. Vertical Force (a worthy shmup, a worthy Star Soldier pseudo-sequel, a worthy classic)

9. Jack Bros. (I haven’t delved into this one too much, but it reams of quality. I need to play this one more often)

10. Teleroboxer(fast and fun, takes full advantage of controller, but it’s boxing)

11. Golf (I hate golf, but it’s a great golf game)

12. Baseball (when the golf game is better than the baseball game, that’s a bad thing)

Well, that’s my list from best to least best from all the games that I have so far. How do you guys feel about your favorite games?

My favorite game is Insmouse. I bet you could never tell! πŸ™‚

Seriously though, Red Alarm is great. It’s the first game I played on the VB. The graphics blew me away and they still do every time I play it. Unfortunately it gets much less interesting once you beat it.

I agree that Galactic Pinball is the best pinball game ever made, though I admit I haven’t played many. It’s very well designed, the unique bonus games are very cool, and each table has its own interesting concept which sets it apart from the other tables.

I can’t say much about other games because my collection isn’t very large and I haven’t finished Wario Land yet.

Just out of curiosity, are you counting the bonus table located within some of the 4 main tables as the fifth table?

Here are all of the commercially released games that received 10 out of 10 from me:

3-D Tetris
Galactic Pinball
Jack Bros.
Panic Bomber
Space Squash
V-Tetris
Virtual Boy Wario Land

So these would be my top 7. Each of them mostly hit the list because of their addicting gameplay and very high replay value.

what are your favorite homebrews?

I haven’t delved into the homebrew community yet. I bought Boung High!, but I don’t think that counts. I’m also not sure which is the best Virtual Boy emulator, as Red Dragon doesn’t even have sound. I’m not ready to buy a flash boy, either.

But, two that really look fun and interesting to me are Fishbone and Ballface. The mario level would be cool to play just to get an idea what the unreleased prototype level was. πŸ™‚

Well, here are all of the homebrew titles that received 10 out of 10 from me:

Fishbone
Mario Kart: Virtual Cup
Mario VB
Soviet Union 2011
Tron
VB Racing
Yeti3D

Basically, if I play a homebrew game that has endless replay value and/or that makes me say to myself β€œHoly crap! This was made by just 1 person!” it achieves 10 out of 10 status.

Three of the unfinished games on the list – so Mario Kart: Virtual Cup, Mario VB, and Yeti3D – don’t currently have endless replay value since they are largely unfinished, but they each make me completely amazed at the programming power of the one person behind the game, and they leave me longing very much for finished games from those programmers. The 4th unfinished game on the list, so VB Racing, both amazes me at the programming power behind it and has a very high replay value even it its current unfinished form. It doesn’t seem like much needs to be added to it, but boy would I love to see it finished, too.

Yes, I am counting the awesome bonus table. “Ladies and gentleman, in just a few moments, our show will begin.” πŸ˜€

I do wonder why you have rated so many games 10s. I can completely understand Galactic Pinball or Wario Land, which both have insane replay value, and timeless gameplay, but why the others? Is this merely because the system had so few games?

I absolutely love Galactic Pinball. The physics are a bit off, but since it’s a puck and not a ball, I let it slide. πŸ™‚ It’s a lot of fun, though! I’ve played that more than any other VB game I own.

Wario Land is also very high quality. I really enjoyed it, but it’s been many years since I’ve played it. I think I should dust it off and go for the best ending. πŸ™‚

It’s possible that I am biased because I am a larger Virtual Boy fan than just about everyone else on the planet. If someone wants to call me a Virtual Boy fanboy, then I say “guilty as charged.” πŸ™‚

But either way, it all falls in the area of opinion and personal preference. In the same way that you wonder why I give those other games 10 out of 10, I wonder why you wouldn’t. What about those games isn’t totally awesome?

Definitely Golf, not the only one, but the one I think of often besides of Red Alarm.

Funny thing is, I would have never played it on the PC or any other console πŸ™‚

Wario Land
Bound High!
Panic Bomber
VTetris
Jack Bros.

^ those are my favorites!

Toughie. I like all the ones I own, and I have more coming in the mail soon (inmouse and jack bros)

I’d definitely say that if I were to make a top 5 in no specific order…

Wario Land
Red Alarm
Panic Bomber
Telero Boxer
Vertical Force

My top 3 are Mario’s Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Red Alarm

My top 3

-VB Wario Land
-Red Alarm
-Panic Bomber

As it was the first Virtual Boy game I played, and also played the most, my number one is Galactic Pinball.

Then in no particular order I place Bound High and VB Wario Land.

After that, I enjoy Teleroboxer and Jack Bros.

This list changes weekly..but I would say

Bound High
Wario land
Faceball: remastered
Hyper Fighter (demo)
Space Squash
vb racing (demo)
Galactic Pinball
Fishbone

Hrms bunches of homebrews on my list….

As proven by bigmak, the Virtual Boy is getting some solid homebrew action specifically within the last 2 years.

i enjoy a lot but i always play wario land and mario clash. to get the most out of mario clash you need to apply the controller fix patch.

Bound High
Wario Land
Space Squash
Mario’s Tennis
Teleroboxer
Jack Bros
Faceball Remastered
Blox 2
Verticle Force

Wario Land, Bound High, V-Tetris, Space Squash and Red Alarm are all genuinely enjoyable games. And with the exception of V-Tetris, unique too.

I enjoy most games on VB, Virtual Lab and Virtual Fishing the least, but that’s 10 percent of the library.

1. Jack Bros.
2. Space Squash
3. Bound High!
4. Faceball (proto version only because I haven’t played remastered yet.)
5. Wario Land
