Has anyone made one? I ask because I run an upholstery shop and was thinking I could design and make a fairly comfortable and strudy head strap. The only problem I can imagine running into would be the visor.

My question is Has anyone already made one and if not would anyone even be interested in one?

Has there been any updates about the project?

Yea, I’m curious as well πŸ™‚

I really hope that the Headstrap gets made because it’s been on my mind ever since the announcement.

I really hope this isn’t a dead project now. :/

I am also very excited about this project and hope that it will eventually come to fruition.

Hey everyone. I have not had a chance to get this done but im hoping I will have some free time to mess around with it soon. I know for certain I can make it, its just a matter of having the time.

I can say for 100% certain this will get done though.

Excellent, thanks for keeping us informed.

No rush πŸ™‚

Thanks for keeping us updated.

Fantastic plan! I’ll follow this project to Virtual Boy hell and back!

Many of us are excessively excited about this project! It’s gonna be awesome!

Totally late to the party here but I would love to see a head strap. One similar to the Oculus would even work. I believe the VB only weighs a little more than my Oculus DK2 and it’s not too bad on the head/neck as long as you don’t play hours at a time.

VB is around a half pound heavier than the Oculus Rift.
But yea that’s actually not a lot more weight surprisingly.

I really wanna see progress on this project but it seems all but dead.

it was said that this would get done (see quote). coupe_sherm probably is just as busy as most people and this project just isn’t a top priority. you continually asking about it really won’t make it happen any sooner. after reading this thread it is rather obvious to me that coupe_sherm is well aware that there is interest in such a project. if you have a need for a headstrap solution tomorrow, why not design your own?

I actually designed a headstrap years ago but it was to intrusive and would basically destroy a Virtual Boy. This design he came up with would require extensive skills with sewing and measuring to not make it look dreadful. I am only wanting one because I currently quit using the VB because it’s so damned uncomfortable.

I actually bought a second VB to mod but just could not get myself to harm it to add the mount brackets. I’m sorry that I’m desperately wanting this project done, I’ve even promised to purchase the prototype just to ensure he makes at least one.

I think we all must admit that using the Virtual Boy in the way originally desired by Nintendo can be quite uncomfortable, especially for long gaming sessions, depending on how one positions him- or herself. When I determined to go for high score runs in VB games a couple of years ago, which was going to require 7 to 8-hour long gaming sessions at a time, I took some time to come up with a position for me that would be most comfortable, so that I could last so long without terrible discomfort. For me, trying to play a virtual boy at a table or desk while sitting upright in a chair, as Nintendo advertised, will just never be comfortable enough for me to last for several hours at a time. What I found to be the most comfortable, without requiring the addition of too many things, is to play the Virtual Boy in a slightly reclining position, so in a reclining chair or even a bean bag chair, etc. To do this, I have to place a platform of sorts on my lap, for the Virtual Boy’s stand to rest on. I actually have a sturdy, cube-shaped hard case for storing the Nintendo GameCube, which I bought many years ago at a Game Stop and which works great as a lap platform. With myself in the slightly reclining position and the Virtual Boy with its stand resting on the lap platform, so that the Virtual Boy is just slightly tilted towards me and lightly pressing against my face, I can play the Virtual Boy for hours and hours at a time, with hardly any discomfort to my face, neck, arms, back, etc. The slight discomfort I might feel during a several hour long session is probably about the same as any discomfort one might feel from playing any system for several hours at a time. The position I use might look a little ridiculous to somebody looking at me, but I usually play in a room alone, so nobody is usually there to mock me for it, and if a family member would happen to come in, then that person just needs to realize it’s Virtual Boy, so back off… πŸ™‚

Thus, I don’t know how long you have tried to come up with a comfortable position for yourself besides using a head mount, but I must say rather cornily, “I found something that worked for me, and I believe you can find something that will work for you, so keep at it!” πŸ™‚

The best solution I found was lying down and placing the Virtual Boy on my face but if I move my head it runs the risk of hitting the ground. I have had it fall off my face before and it horrified me enough to not want to do it again.

I know for a fact that adults could support the VB on their face because it doesn’t bother me to have it laying on my face. So the headstrap while not likely good for a child’s head would be perfect for an adult. πŸ™‚

Do you simply use the regular eyeshade when you do that, or do you add something softer to the Virtual Boy head unit before you let it rest on your face?

Whenever I have tried to lie down flat and let the head unit rest on my face, having nothing more on it than the original eyeshade, the head unit would usually dig into the top of my nose or else crush my whole nose, so I couldn’t last more than about an hour if I did that. I’d like to think that I don’t have that big of a nose, but I guess mine is probably larger than most people’s.

Yes I have my nose area padded with a helmet adhesive pad which fit perfectly in the area. It is more comfortable with it added.
