Hi all!!!
I’m new to the site and Ive been reading the forum threads like a crazed madman and am glad to have read that everyone seems to be helpful and down to earth here which is refreshing cause I just put in my order to Richard for a Flash Boy Plus and will probably have many questions about it. I’m not a coder but have the highest respect for them (its a gift I just ain’t got). Ive loved video games ever since my older brother brought home our Atari 2600 back in the late 70’s. Back then (and still now) I was amazed at how one could manipulate sprites on the TV, I felt the same way when I first looked into the headset of the Virtual Boy and saw Mario’s Tennis, this made me pick up my Virtual Boy on launch day.
Since I grew up in the 80’s I got a huge, and I mean huge collection of Transformers from G1 to 3rd party robots, so if anyone else share’s my enthusiasm let me know so I can prove to my wife its a normal hobby….(We pose not play with them). Cant stand the Michael Bay movies, give me the 80’s movie with Prime’s death edited out and all will be right with the world. Anyways I also bought a 3D printer recently (my hopes for replicating the Dinobots quickly vanished upon its arrival). I did manage to print out a new Virtual Boy medallion for my stand, so give me time and maybe…Oh well it looks cool as hell when its printing anyways(just wish the wife thought so). Oh one last thing the only sport I watch is boxing and with the recent announcement of Mayweather/Pacquiao all I can say is yessss and its about time this happened.
Thanks
Your new buddy

Hi there!

Welcome to the site

Thanks Guys, by the way I loved your review of Hyper fighting speedyink. That game looks amazing, cant wait to play the demo!

Welcome to the community. I also have a collection of Transformers, but my most prized piece is the MP-04 Optimus Prime with trailer. I am also excited for those recently announced combiner wars transformers from Hasbro. That Devastator from combiner wars is sweet!

Google it or check out my attached image

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the video. Its a great demo, you’ll love it when you get your flashboy!

Yea Fordman I gotta get the combinder series. Superion,Devistator,Menasor…..I need more $$$ unfortunately. I also have that mp-1 & m-4,he’s high on my list too. I’m torn between my Fort Maximus(got the original Brave Maximus & the reissue Fort Max.) and my Planet X Genesis. Both are great pieces.Do you collect any 3rd party figures?

Speedy I hope there will be many more polished VB games for you to review in the future. I’ve been reading about the Hyper Fighting private release with envy and am hopeful this will start a resurgence in game development for our beloved system.

Me too! The more games for the system the better. There’s lots I haven’t reviewed yet, the main thing deterring me is not being able to capture decent VB footage. The only way I can think of doing it properly is getting one of my VB’s VGA modded, or purchase a PAL camera that records at 50 frames per second. Neither of those are happening soon though…

wouldnt the best way to show footage be through an emulator, or RetroArch running on a Wii via homebrew launcher etc? Obviously it wouldn’t be in 3D, but for the purposes of a video review, neither will people be watching YouTube in 3D either 😉

SpeedyInk, if your camera supports variable shutter speed, try lowering it to 30 or less, that should make the VB picture appear constant.

Yeah, that would probably be ideal, although being the purist I am emulation has always been a last resort. In fact I’ve never had to resort to it. I may resort to it for the VB though..

I can choose my FPS, between 24, 30, and 60 FPS. 60 is horrible, 30 has fast scanlines. 24 FPS is the best with a slow scanline (25fps I imagine would be fine, as it’s half the 50fps I’m trying to record).

Ok…. Good, problem solved. So speedy what VB games do you have up your sleeve for your next review (any rare roms we need to know about)? I gotta have something to watch while waiting on my Flash Boy Plus.

Also I gotta give it up to 3DBoyColor, I would’ve never thought about slowing down the shutter speed.

Well the Hyper fighting review was with the camera at 24fps, and I’m still not happy with it. Next ones will most likely be emulated.

I don’t think I have anything no ones heard about. Just Bound High, Faceball and some other Uncle Tusk releases that aren’t available anymore. I’ll also do some homebrews too.

I’ll do another video of Hyper fighting using an emulator for some clearer footage too. I’d like people to have a clear look at most of the stages, as well as some better footage of turbo mode.

I’ll try to do some soon as I haven’t done a video in a few weeks. Getting married soon though, so spare time has been at a minimum.

Emulation I think would be the easiest way to post on YouTube, seeing how after one gets married nothing is easy anymore I mean heck you wouldn’t think the toilet seat could cause such a ruckus <--(parent talk) oh but it does. I'm not trying to scare you out of it, but I'm just saying after 14years of marriage I myself am bald, overweight and I had to give up the "green leaf" for green tea and I won't even start on parenthood. All ranting/kidding aside Congratulations!!!!

Haha, it does make things more complicated. We’ve known each other more than 6 years, so we’re pretty comfortable with each other. We’re both into the leafy greens though so no issues there =P
No kids for us either, its not something either of us want, so not happening!

Thanks man, appreciate it.

Speedy I’m sure it will be great!!! Never count the “no children policy” though, when her friends start having them and your one particular friend who thought children are the spawn of hell has one and is actually good at being a dad, then that’s when you may start thinking of having a Speedy Jr. BTW we didn’t have our son till I was 36 so never say never (and I always said never). Your smart knowing your significant other a long time first. I think that’s why my wife is cool about me having more toys then ToysRUs.

Smoke some KB for me my friend!!!

Yeeeah, well we’re both dudes so no issues with children. Its not that I’m totally against them, my nephew is real cool. Just not something I aspire to have.

I shall, in fact we are right now!

Oh man you got it made, I dont know what I would do not worrying about “that time of the month” and trying to stay on her “good side” when we all know there isn’t one when its “that time”. Anyway getting back to the “evergreen”. When the Dreamcast came out and you could go on it with the web browser (remember that thing 56k modem). My screen name was “Tokemon”)read Toke-e-mon. Never got better feedback on a screen name since. I used to love gaming under the influence (high mind = high score) Good times!!!I curse you with the munchies j/k.

Haha, true that, I do get to dodge that bullet.

Oh nice, that’s a sweet screen name. I have a picture that is exactly that name with appropriate Pokemon in it.

3D games get pretty darn cool after a good dab =P Love my Virtual Boy!
