it says it woks with the vb but it looks a bit small on the thin end to take out the 2 vb screws that are far in the whole

It will fit over the screw but you’ll need to grind it round to be able to fit it in the deep holes and then cut a trace in the end so you can turn it with a plain screwdriver.

Modifying a flat screwdriver will be quicker, both will probably be a good solution, you could use the proper bit for the screws you can reach and the modded screwdriver for the deeper ones. It will save some wear on that.

There are plain looking screwdrivers with a gamebit head but it was a ling time since I saw one of those for sale.

Here’s one:

Googled it from here:

Where you can also see these wonderful pictures of what was delivered:

Looks like it could be prefect for a Virtual Boy.

£8.15

Apparently the same driver has been used here:

You could also do what I did. Just grind away with a dremel tool the material that prevents the bit from reaching the deepest screws. Its a better option IMO then to cut the bit in half and notch it to work with a screw driver.

Here’s the one for you akumie, on Swedish Tradera:
http://www.tradera.com/Gamebit-4-5mm-med-handtag-oppna-N64-Gamecube-Sega-Master—auktion_301509_127860359

If HonkeyKong would look at my first link he’d see that they do the same thing, just with a shorter gamebit.

well I was going to buy it but dont want to modify it so it should open the 2 screws far in thw whole

My mothers husband has tried many times to open the screws but everytime he needed a new tool, so hard to modify so I just want something that works for once without needing so much finf modifing to it

I bought one of these:
http://www.tradera.com/Gamebit-4-5mm-med-handtag-oppna-N64-Gamecube-Sega-Master—auktion_301509_127860359

… and it didn’t fit in the two hard ones, the handle touches the middle part before it gets to the bottom. There’s only about 55mm until the handle starts, to be on the safe side you need 74mm… It works but it’s a bad fit over the screws, it should have been a little bit smaller.

So maybe that one at rs-online is the next bet, that one also looked good.

Order from Sweden:
http://se.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=searchProducts&searchTerm=4447891&x=0&y=0
Costs 100 SEK, I’m guessing tax and shipping costs as well…

So, don’t buy this, it won’t fit the last two screws, it can possibly be modified but the nudges on the metal that grips the inside of the handle are very close to the bottom part of the handle:

Well I already bought the tradera link because you said it would work wirh no modiifing
Gets the screw next week 🙂

I bought it too, for the same reasons, but sent it back for a full refund (including shipping costs).

I have asked rs-online but as they want company-customers I’m not sure I’ll even get an answer.

I think Krisse should buy a few and sell here in a PlanetVB-shop.

Fuck, and I getting it next week
Wll it must be easier to modify then some regular screw

Found another proper model:
http://en.item.rakuten.com/monju/800-dtc-27/

I saw this the other day: http://www.nintendorepairhut.com/repairsupplies/snesrepairsupplies.html – Professional 4.5mm Nutsetter Screw Driver. Kinda expensive, but looks nice… and should work. I’ve got some other stuff to order from there, so I may order one of them as well.

DogP

Seems like a proper one, a little expensive though – looks like the one I linked to last. I haven’t gotten the total yet, but I ordered one…
It’s US$15.54 at rakuten.com, I imagine that with shipping it will be about the price (without shipping) of the one you linked to. But who knows how much shipping costs on a single driver shipped internationally from Japan is…

Got the confirmation from Japan today.

ENGINEER DTC-27 \1,274.-
Carriage charge \420.-
Tatal \1,694.-

So not bad, about $21 including shipping.
In Swedish currency 132,89 has been withdrawn from my bank account.

Seems like anyone with a credit card can shop there.

I missed this one:

Yes, just sand down the lower part of the handle and it should fit.

You can send it back otherwise, I did and I got the cost plus shipping costs both ways back – very nice seller.

e5frog: have you gotten that Rakuten one yet? When you do, be sure and post whether it fits the deep holes. I have a feeling it may need a tiny bit of adjustment, but it’s hard to tell from their pictures/description.

I got it today!

Wonderful wonderful thing – fit’s like a glove!

It can’t possibly get any better than this!

Even the thicker part of the blade fits with some room to spare (goes in about 2mm).

This is THE Virtual Boy tool to get.

awesome news! i think i’m going to have to pick one up.

@RunnerPack
: looks like this is the tool to get, talk to you about it on IRC.

I forgot about the sucky postimage picture handling.

Here are the links to the full sized pictures:

I got my DTC-27 driver today and it fits perfectly, thanks for the tip e5Frog. The DLH3-95 on the first page is a *very* tight fit for the two deep screws, so the DTC-27 is definitely the driver you want.
