Actually you’re right. I remember that picture too, complete with the strange blurry rectangle above the cart and everything. If it is a typo and it’s $100..then I might actually be a little interested.

Haha yes! That blurry rectangle, I thought that was a half-assed Microsoft Paint censoring of something on the carpet, but I think it’s something plastic under the game. Maybe it’s that thing in Jack Bros level 3 or whatever that obscures part of the playing field 😉

Regarding availability, that makes sense about a small press but for such a good game, I don’t know why they do that. Must have been regional, my store in VT seemed like the first place the Jack Bros delivery truck stopped.

Based on pics and 3 seconds of gameplay I’ve seen of Dragon Hopper, I feel like that game has level design similar to Jack Bros…but you actively jump up and down to the different planes. Maybe?

Good call on buying direct from Atlus by the way! I bought a replacement manual for their N64 Snowboard Kids on ebay, the seller says he bought out the company’s stock when they folded or something. Naturally I asked about Jack Bros but he had nothin’…

It’s a very good game, but suffers the same problem as most VB games — two dimensional images, set at three dimensional depths. The bosses are tough, especially the final one; use the “jump” disks to get all the lives and “snowballs/knives” you can, you’ll need them on the final.

Make it through the entire game without losing a man, wait out the credits, and there’s a secret code that allows you to play SUPER mode. Make it through the SUPER game, and there’s a secret code for a “pixie game”.

Yeah I have the Japanese one already, so I’ve played it. Haven’t beaten it yet though, thanks for the tips!

I laughed pretty good at the “dark cover” or whatever it’s called. It could be!

I dunno about Dragon Hopper being similar, the levels seem more open and less maze like. But, I guess we’d have to play it to know exactly what it’s like =P

Yeah that laser disc is insanely priced. Would be very cool to have, just not $1000 cool.

🙂

Also,

If the laser disc had a good bit of coverage for Zero Racers and/or Dragon Hopper, especially coverage that has never been posted online before, it would indeed be interesting. Nevertheless, since the seller says that the videos are from around 1995, that must mean that there is absolutely no coverage of either of those games, in which case one would be paying a grand simply to see games that one can already play.

That laser disc says V13 on it, wasn’t the YouTube link somebody else posted recently Volume 11? Assume V13 is volume 13, maybe this one has some “newer” VB games on it or at least actual gameplay. And some sweet 90s haircuts.

We supposedly have all Virtual Boy promo videos from Nintendo Power Preview Laserdiscs 13 to 16 here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/advertising/?p

Would be interesting if someone had another look at No 13, plus I’d love to have a full rip of it, but $1000? Lulz.

I’ve talked to a collector about this cart before and according to him this is not really a VB interface. More likely, Nintendo just reused VB connectors for some kind of debugging interface connection.

Last time I have seen that card a different seller tried to sell it for $650. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-development-Proto-EAD-cart-N64-/221333838068

I remember looking at that a while back from a thread over at ASSEMbler:
http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?32580-New-kind-of-N64-cart-found!-What-is-it

IIRC, I came to the conclusion that it is actually the VB pinout, but the cart is meant for the N64. If you follow some of those traces, you’ll see that the power, ground, and audio jumpers match… and though I can’t trace all the pins (I don’t have a virtual continuity tracer for JPGs 😉 ), if you take pin 37 (D0) for example… you can trace it to pin 33 on a flash chip, which is also D0. Also, note that the VB is 5V, and N64 is 3.3V… and those flash chips support 5V and 3.3V operation. You’ll also note that all VB address line pins are used (has traces to pin 10 – A22), which corresponds to all 128mbits of chips present (16x 8mbit chips).

My guess is that they were early N64 dev carts using VB dev kits to program the N64 carts. It probably would actually work with a VB, other than obviously not fitting in a standard system (connector section is too short for the system cart slot)… but it would fit in a VB dev kit or gang programmer cart slot.

Don’t worry, I’ve already emailed him asking if a shrinkwrapped Mario’s Tennis is available too.

this seller lost$$found pisses me off. apparently they like to pull apart working VB units and sell them as parts.

anyways, i’m more posting this here because i read some recent threads from users looking for spare cables to solder. they often pop-up on ebay from this seller.
