also, speaking of stickers, US Virtual Boys have two different box variants; one with a white Duracell offer sticker and one with a green Duracell offer sticker! mine has a white sticker

It’s a coupon on the box. When you peel off the green $1-Off Duracell coupon, the white bottom portion remains. (Similar to manufacturers coupons you commonly see on groceries)

For other sticker variants, the New VB units you could buy from blockbuster had a yellow triangular sticker over the “Mario’s Tennis inside” that says:
RENT IT!
$9.99
[size=medium]Includes Hardware
[size=medium]System Rental
[size=medium]and 2 Games
[size=small]For 3 Evenings!
[size=xx-small]ASK FOR DETAILS
[size=xx-small]AT CHECKOUT

If its a coupon, why did someone take off the green part if my Virtual Boy was supposedly “never used”? they wouldn’t need batteries for a console they never used and never were going to use! (plus, I thought you had to send off the Duracell offer paper slip inside the box to get the offer! the Duracell offer paper slip was included with my Virtual Boy) 😕

also, I never saw or knew about that Blockbuster sticker

Some person probably took the sticker off your box when it was on store shelves thinking that they could use the coupon without the form and just wanted some cheap batteries.

As for the blockbuster sticker, I’ll post a pic of it later (I’m in the middle of some Spring…erm Summer-cleaning and I misplaced my camera somewhere in the clutter 😉 )

There is currently a seller on Ebay, who is offering a “factory sealed” version of Mario’s Tennis:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-VIRTUAL-BOY-BRAND-NEW-FACTORY-SEALED-/120720773268?pt=Video_Games&hash=item1c1b84d094

Can anybody verify if Mario’s Tennis was ever factory sealed, even when copies were originally delivered to Blockbusters? I have a feeling that this “factory sealed” version of Mario’s Tennis is fraudulent, and therefore, the game’s box was sealed by someone after the fact.

You’re right, there never were sealed Mario’s Tennis. The sealing also looks very homemade. Fraud – this should be reported to ebay.

It makes me wonder, though, whether the selling company itself was fooled when it happened upon this “factory sealed” version of Mario’s Tennis. Nevertheless, the seller’s description could be an attempt at “playing dumb” about the situation, while someone among them actually sealed it and they are now calling it “factory sealed.”

LOL! Looking at the 4th picture, the seal is clearly over the sticker, which had been marked by hand… and is the 6th picture showing the side of the box? That’s not even shrink wrap!

:thumpdown: It looks worst than Mexican sealed games

Look at this Virtual Boy’s blockbuster carry case! it has a different sort of label! however, it looks like a homemade replacement label… its still very cool looking though!

“LOL! Looking at the 4th picture, the seal is clearly over the sticker, which had been marked by hand… and is the 6th picture showing the side of the box? That’s not even shrink wrap!”

Yeah… it must have been “factory sealed” at Blockbuster, after an employee took the game’s box out of its delivery box.
🙂

The way I see it: No person who is well-informed about the Virtual Boy is going to fall for this attempt. At the same time, no person who isn’t well-informed about the Virtual Boy is going to be willing to pay the price that the seller is demanding for it. Thus, no harm should come of this. Nevertheless, I think curiosity has won the best of me, so I’m going to message the seller and see if the seller would be willing to change the description or take it down, after being informed that this particular game was not factory sealed and that no copies of Mario’s Tennis have ever been factory sealed.

Well, it does seem that the seller of the “factory sealed” Mario’s Tennis was, in fact, honestly mistaken. After writing to him for a little bit, he has now changed the description, and even the price a bit, too.

Another Famitsu issue (95.2.24) on Yahoo Japan Auctions, containing at least 6 pages of VB coverage:

: BTW, did you receive the Famitsu issue you scored? Please PM me! 🙂

What are these promotional flyers that this guy is talking about? it can’t be the instruction booklet as he mentions that as a separate thing

Not sure, if yoy have a eBay account you can ask him.

I just won this case, what do you all think about that sticker? Crazy, seems like having the 4 VB corners perfect would be too much of an effort for an amateur job just trying to make $99, not to mention an amateur could gluestick any label properly in 2 minutes.

I’m VERY excited about this one and will post pics of it in a few days or so when it arrives! 🙂

The Travel Master is definitely not a proto for blockbuster, but this may be. It’s either a fake or insanely AWESOME. Wish me luck, guys n’ gals.

edit: Awww sh**. So the label is a fake, huh? That’s a pisser, already paid. I’ll just wait for it to arrive and file a claim if it’s bad as expected. 🙁

Even if it is fake that label is still really sweet! I like it!

What’s wrong with that blockbuster case even though it has a custom label? Actually, I saw that exact same case in an auction with a Virtual Boy awhile ago… I think this guy won that auction and now sold the blockbuster case to you

I think this is what the official label should have looked like! I like this label better! :thumpup:

The Wario Land in this auction comes with its (original) receipt! no kidding! and there is pictures to prove it isn’t some retro game store pre-owned stuff receipt, its a Target receipt from 1997!

The sad thing is, it looks like the Virtual Boy in said auction has a slight case of scrambly-screen 🙁

There is a used copy of Space Invaders: Virtual Collection available at http://www.gamebaz.com for $159.30

Chances are, it is only the game cartridge, but if that is the case, you can choose to receive an additional 10% discount on the product at checkout. You can also ask them what all comes with it before you make the purchase, but as I’ve found out, they get a little cranky when people do that, but they, nevertheless, return your message.

That is actually one of the cheapest copies of the game that I have ever seen. I can’t imagine a cheaper one ever popping up on Ebay. It’s certainly worth it if you’d like to add an original manufacturer’s cartridge of the 4th rarest Virtual Boy game ever to your collection.
