The last day of the Virtual League Baseball 2 donation drive was November 10th.

We’re excited to share that the donations totaled about 35% of the cost we spent on acquiring the ROM. The financial support means a lot to us. We recouped much more than we expected. I’m shocked that more than half of our donations came after the ROM was released – and with nothing physical for the group to give backers. It’s been a privilege to be able to contribute to the VB community in this way, and it shows just how much some money can make a difference.

Unfortunately, the best projects for our beloved Virtual Boy community usually aren’t free. If you are in a position to be able to financially support efforts of this community, you can always donate directly to the Planet Virtual Boy site. Alternatively, backing development teams on Patreon, purchasing fan-made VB hardware/software, etc. all makes a big difference to the people who spend a lot of their free time making the VB space so engaging.

I’m crossing my fingers hoping for more good VB news on the horizon! Thanks again, PVB.

Hello, PVB!

We’d like to thank everyone for their support, kind words, and all positive sentiment that’s been out there since the release of the ROM. Special thanks to everyone who’s made a video, written an article, etc. about VLB2.

All the positive publicity has brought about another wave of financial support. I’d like to share with everyone that we’ve now collected 31% of the total cost of the ROM through donations – nearly doubling the amount we’d received at the time of the ROM release! Every bit helps – we never expected to receive as much as we have.

The donation drive for the VLB2 team will continue until November 10th. After that date, I encourage anyone who wishes to donate in support of Planet Virtual Boy to do so here on the main site, at https://www.virtual-boy.com/donations/.

To all those who donated to the VLB2 fundraiser and everyone who’s played Virtual League Baseball 2, thank you so much!

MegumiAyase, thanks for joining us here on Planet Virtual Boy! I hope you had some fun playing Virtual League Baseball 2.

Just so everyone is aware, I spent the last week or so writing a guide for VLB2. I had a lot of requests for help on Discord, and to my knowledge I’m the only person who has beat the game. Go to the game’s page and click Guides to find it. It’s in the process of being accepted and published over on GameFAQs, too.

Thank you for finding and posting this discovery! I wonder if every single block in the game can be used in this intro, or if certain blocks appear more often than others.

Clearly, T&E Soft put lots of effort into their VB work. Red Alarm’s intro has some intricacies as well, if I’m not mistaken.

Protoman85, great to see you! I’ve watched all your VB-related content on Youtube several times. I commented on your Faceball video on YouTube to see if you’d have any interest in doing some reviews of the newest VB developments. It’s a shame that your camera can’t capture VB footage anymore. If you’ve got a 3DS capture card, there’s been a new development that allows full 3D play on that system. It’s an emulator called Red Viper, and it works great.

Virtual League Baseball 2 isn’t a homebrew, but is a fully licensed and unreleased game that some people crowdfunded in order to bring to the community. That will be available September 21st of this year. Abarth mentioned a lot of great picks in his comment, but there are several others you should also look into. In particular, the public Formula V demo, the Elevated Speed demo, and the fully completed Virtual WarZone (an Atari Battlezone clone) are all excellent. Formula V is still actively being worked on and will get a release someday.

Welcome back!

Totally understand the curiosity, abarth! I’m sure you’re not the only one who’s wondering the same. Thus far, we’ve received a small percentage (about 15%) of the total cost in donations. At this point, we don’t anticipate recouping the full amount spent, but if we do, we will announce that and dedicate any additional funds to future such purchases.

We are very humbled of all the positive feedback we’ve received, and it means a lot that so many people have tossed some money our way to help us recoup the significant financial hit of this transaction. Every bit helps, as far as we’re concerned.

Thanks for all the kind words and support, everyone! We’ve all been so excited to make this announcement – and just as excited for everyone to finally play the game. No physical release is planned. The ROM is small enough to fit on all available flashcarts, including legacy ones like FlashBoy and FlashBoy+.

I think it’s very cool that despite the short life of the VB at retail, it had 1 game which actually ended up having a sequel.

There’s some user reviews slowly being posted by people with the ROM. Both myself and other members of the group have found Virtual League Baseball 2 to me a massive improvement on the original game. I am comfortable placing VLB2 among my favorite titles in the whole library. It is insanely replayable and makes some of the best use of the 3D I’ve seen in any VB game, retail or homebrew.

To all of you who have donated to our fundraiser thus far, we sincerely appreciate your financial contribution. It’s so nice seeing so much support from this community for the 30 year anniversary.

This is one of those things people will be using for years when making homebrew releases a reality. Thank you!

abarth, I can’t believe I missed this on the front page when you originally posted. I just gave the demo a shot and it’s really cool work! I really enjoyed the experience, and Tronimal’s soundtrack adds a lot to the overall feel. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for this, V.O.R.T.E.C.H.S. Games! I had a lot of fun playing and the artstyle is nice!

I should have done this a long time ago! I’ve had several VBs, but currently only own three.

V10039516 JP unit with PLAYLINK port, loose
V10163451 JP unit with EXT, CIB
VN10000994[1], NA White Box Pre-production unit, sticker #6528 under visor, CIB

This game is a lot of fun. So happy to see that Megu-tan was included from Virtual Lab! I’m sure she’d love if you shared this with her on Twitter. Thanks, Simon!

Thanks for putting in the legwork to contact the author about getting those scans of the devcart user manual! That’s the type of effort that makes PVB more complete by the day.

I edited the main post, but wanted to post it again here in the comments. A score of 200,000+ unlocks the Special and Extra difficulty modes on 3-D Tetris Clear It! ‘Hard’ mode! The Special Command code is different and uses the B button this time.

abarth, that’s correct. The additional high score modes are only available to players who have attained the 200k+ points in the regular Hard mode of 3-D Tetris Type A.

Maybe I should upload my save so people who can’t unlock it can still see those extra modes.

I’d like to comment here and just say that fiercedeityys is legit. We negotiated a transaction outside of eBay and I’m happy to vouch for him!

Hi fiercedeityys! I’m the one who messaged you tonight and invited you to the forum. I’ll be PMing you shortly. Congrats on the engagement!

I’d love to see this answered by someone who knows what they’re talking about. I’ve had this issue on several consoles, all of which have their ribbons soldered.
