I was wondering if anyone had knowledge about an unopened Virtual Boy? I always wanted one as a kid, and decided to hunt one down. Today I found one in a local shop that has never been opened and still has the proof of purchase/registration card on the box that has never been filled out. I want to open the box so bad but I am wondering if something like this has any value?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Virtual boys really weren’t ‘sealed’ *gosh i’ll feel foolish* so, go ahead and open it up and give it a go..just take good care of everything that came with it.

I’m certain that L_E_T would disagree, but I say give it a go if you plan to keep it.
Please take warning that NOS VB consoles are especially susceptible to getting the glitchy line problem since the ribbon cables haven’t moved in 17 years , so adjust the IPD knob very slowly and once you find the sweet spot for your eyes don’t touch it again.

You might be best off selling your NOS unit and buying a used complete one for cheaper.

Any ideas on the value of the system?

I’ d estimate $200-250? Somewhere in that range.

I agree with Dreammary’s estimate on the value of the system in that state. It is impossible to know for sure if a Virtual Boy system box has never been opened, since they were never sealed on the outside as bigmak said. Thus, people place value on it solely on what the condition of the outside of the box is. So if you are planning to resell it, I wouldn’t say that you know for sure that the box was never opened, but rather that it is in like new condition, if that is the case with its appearance.

I, however, who am a diehard Virtual Boy fan to the end, would say that you should open it, play it all the time, carefully maintain it, and get all the enjoyment out of it you can! 🙂
