As you all know, I received my Virtual Boy this Christmas Eve. I’ve been playing it quite often, approximately ten hours of play since then, basically bouncing back and forth from the Virtual Boy to the other games I got. When I haven’t been playing, I’ve been very careful to protect it as I know it’s a very fragile system…

Bam. Display problems. I turned it on to start playing Mario Clash when after the first level, lines started appearing. Even though the cartridges are cleaned when you play them, I figured there might be some dust or something as lines appear on the screen when you play NES games. I take out the cartridge and put it back in and now the lines show up immediately. Only the right screen is affected…

Although I haven’t counted the lines, I would estimate that they number to about ten. They appear to run completely across the screen when you look in; affecting only the red areas. For example, when I played Red Alarm, I didn’t really notice it except on the menus.

So I post here to basically get it confirmed that it’s the display “glitch”. I’ve read a bit of the threads on fixing the display problems but I’m not very confident in my ability to fix things… even with glue, a rather unrisky method, it seems like it would be far from permanent and I still don’t know if I would fix it successfully. I have also never soldered before.

*sigh* I’m disappointed. Although I knew it’d happen eventually, I just kinda wish it would’ve happened a while later. Any recommendations? Should I try it myself? Is there a reliable member that has a more permanent solution?

Thanks. Sorry if this thread is redundant, part of it’s purpose was also to vent frustration and express disappointment.

There are two methods to fix this. I used to oven method, and it works pretty good.

Now apparently, there is a third trick. If you leave the system on for a VERY long time, this itself heats up the glue and will work as well. I am not sure how well this works though.

Thanks, guys. I’m talking to TheForce81 now.
