Original Post

New member just wanted to introduce myself. Ive been lurking for a little while but decided it was a good time to finally join.

I was one of the what seems like 5 people who bought a virtual boy when they were first released haha. I just recently found it in a box and decided that it would be fun for my daughter but after giving it a few rounds remembered how much fun it was.

My problem is the display which seems to be the same problem that most people have. I see that runnerpack seems to be the go to repair man around here and have sent him a PM.

With that being said does anyone mfg a game bit that fits the VB without modification? Also does the VB use the same size bit as the original snes? I ask because I actually have a $20 dollar bill lodged in my snes from when I was a kid and opening it up could easily pay for the tool haha.

Also can anyone give me a little info on the flashboy and the homebrew options for the vb? Looks like you guys have some pretty awesome stuff going on here.

Welcome to the site. This is a great community full of a variety of knowledgeable people.

Here is some info on the FlashBoy:
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/hardware/index.php?type=flashcarts&v=fb

The FlashBoy+ is a standard Flash Kit with battery back-up (for those few games that need it). To flash the cart you’ll need to use a bit of software that is Windows based. ROMs need to be padded to 2MB in size, and there is software for that as well.

Homebrew is mostly listed on the site here:

Yes, the SNES uses the same size gamebit driver.

This one would work for the VB without modification. You might be able to find one cheaper though.

There’s lots of great homebrew here. Some of my favorites are:

VB Racing
Blox 2
Hunter
Hyper Fighting
Mario Kart Virtual cup
Mario VB
Yeti3D
Snatcher
Zpace racers…

Yeah I could go on, just try them all out =P

Also try Bound High and Faceball. They were two of the cancelled games slated for ’96, and definitely worth a play!

speedyink listed them all for sure! 🙂

Hello and welcome Coupe_sherm! 🙂

Question about homebrew – does the flashboy support more than one rom at a time like an r4 card?

No, it only supports one ROM at the time and you cannot backup the save file. Welcome!

Interesting. Has anyone attempted to make something similar to an R4?

Yep

Hello coupe_sherm!

When I was younger I was given 20 dollars in a birthday card. To keep my brother from finding it I needed a good hiding place. Where did i pick? My snes. I pressed down the eject button and slid the 20 dollar bill into the unit. A week later I went to get it out and realize it had went back all the way into the unit and was completely out of reach.

I contimplated breaking it open over the years but could never bring myself to do it. Now with this new gamebit on the way I can retrieve my long lost birthday 20.

Great story!

Reminds me of a hole in a wall at school that me and my friend used to put our Star Wars figures into. You could pop them in at the top of this dry stone wall and the figures would fall down the inside of the wall, and emerge through a hole at the bottom.

One day one of our figures got stuck in the wall and blocked up the hole. It may well still be there thirty-odd years later. I think it was Luke Skywalker in Hoth fatigue.

I digress OT. Sorry. Funny how you remember these things…

Wait… so you’re saying that one of the originally released Episode 5: Luke Skywalker action figures could still be stuck in a school’s wall somewhere?

No matter what condition it is now in, it would probably be worth retrieving!
