How to identify original Hyper Fighting release carts?

The best way to tell would be the box and manual(I’m assuming you’d be going by pictures and can’t take a look at the board itself). The original run were all CIB. I made a video of mine and VectrexRoli made a video on his, I believe in both our videos we go into detail about the box and manual.
I’m not sure how many of the ‘repro’ runs came as CIB, but it’s harder to copy all 3 parts then just to copy the cart sticker. Now the board inside the cart would be a sure fire way but usually you don’t get to see it in a sale.

And this is why I need to make myself notes, lol.

My guess is Anon did the cart as well but it could’ve been Minestorm since he was doing Flashboys and stuff at the time. Just a guess though.

Last years I got an original of this game and it works, but it has a problem with saving. Now I’m not saying it is impossible, but what are the odds I’d have 2 bad batteries, one I bought new? It just won’t save anything. It’s not the end of days or anything but it is slightly annoying.

The 1st and only official run PCB was 100% made by Richard (Minestorm). Packaging was put together by UncleTusk. Initial pre-orders were sold by BigMak. I can not recall who shipped my carts, though. I’m not speculating, I was part of the conversation then and after. This includes a few of the more sensitive conversations and facts that, for some reason, we just never talk about. This game still has a strange vale of secrecy around it. There are other carts out there which I was told from owners were purchased from Kevin. Richard gave all of his remaining boards to JohnnyPhantom, who was going to do a 2nd “official” run, but never did.

Any other boards I have not seen nor do I know where they come from.

I own two CIB carts, and will open them up this week to see if they are different than images already posted here. I have a vague recollection that the first boards were purple in color, but the CIB production boards were yellow? I know there was a post, but I went looking and conveniently could not find it (hmm). Web archive for the win? Both of my carts fit well into the VB. I have opened them before and will add that they do take a little extra pressure when putting the shell back together.

I hope my typing this does not appear as if I am tossing anyone under the bus or posting something I should not. This is because Richard, Eric, and Kevin have all been very kind to me. In fact, my unique VB cart collection would not exist if it was not for all 3 of them. Especially Richard and Eric!

I have a “special” cart that Richard kindly made in secret a few years ago and sent to me for free as my only purpose was and still is to allow french people to discover this masterpiece. I think time as passed and I can now talk about it. I asked nothing at the time, I just worried one time on the forum that I would have loved to have the game to spread the hype about it here in France. Richard then contacted me. Thanks again, Richard !

It’s the cart alone, no box, no manual. It even doesn’t have a sticker :p

So far I presented it in many events with a grand total over 20k visitors. I made a bartop enclosure for my VB so children can play with no risk for the VB to fall off the table (visitors already broke one of our VBs this way).

There’s also a little sign explaining the game’s story, how it was funded by one guy, and created by another one guy.

Some people traveled hundreds of kilometers just to try it.
