Hi everyone,
I’d like to share with you the completion of a project I started a few years ago, which is now fully functional.
MrCART is a flash cart that doesn’t need to be removed to change games—just power the system off and on again, and you’ll see a list of games displayed on the Virtual Boy screen.
From a technical standpoint, it’s fairly simple. It features a 32Mbit Flash memory, which allows for games like Hyper Fighting, and an SRAM chip for save data storage. MrCART can load roms from 256KB to 4MB.
As with other flash carts, you’ll need an original game to harvest the connector—and in my case, also the main shell and the connector cover.
You can see more information in http://www.mrcart.info
I’d like to thank Planet Virtual Boy, libgccvb (KR155E), and everyone who has shared information about the Virtual Boy online—thanks to all of you, I was able to learn and bring this project to life.
Special thanks to albertoven for creating the menu for the console, and to my family and friends for putting up with me during this whole process.
UNBOXING:
HAND-ASSEMBLED:
Quick note all, Dudeway found a little bug earlier on today with this cart where it wont load RoboNaut or the platformer demo.
I did a bit more testing and it fails to flash any rom smaller than 256KB (2Mbit). This seems to be for all roms i’ve tested, anything 2Mbit or bigger works like a dream.
The workaround, and thanks to “Ace'” on discord for the tip:
Example rom is color.vb, do this:
open a cmd (command) window and cd to the folder then paste or type this
copy /b color.VB + color.VB + color.VB + color.VB color-256.VB
And use the color-256.vb rom instead, its now a nice padded rom. (padded with itself 4 times, but works!)
if it’s a name with spaces then something like this:
copy /b “Tronimal – Robonaut.vb” + “Tronimal – Robonaut.vb” + “Tronimal – Robonaut.vb” + “Tronimal – Robonaut.vb” “Tronimal – Robonaut-256.VB”
then problem solved. Great cart btw! Also i’m using MrCart v0.21 if that helps.
Hi All
Thanks so much for the comments, I never expected the cart to be received this warmly by the community. I’m honestly thrilled
As stated on the website, MrCART can load ROMs from 256KB up to 4MB — excellent solution, unumSolum. Thank you so much!
Good news is coming soon, I just ask for a bit more patience.
In the meantime, here’s a video showing how the first units were made:
Nice video @mrflower
I am hopeful to own one of your wonderful flashcarts
Thank you MrFlower, I shared it to the group and it sold out again in 10 minutes.
Got one! Thanks to MrFlower for doing this, and to Super Bros. for the notice.
Will there be additional carts added to eBay in the future? Also are the system files/menu posted anywhere? It would be nice to be able to redownload them.
@pinmagic
You’re welcome, I didn’t want anyone to miss out like the last round. It’s only fair to share directly for everyone to see.
Hello everyone.
Regarding the problems with saving games.
Would you be so kind as to open the cartridge by removing the two small screws and look at the SRAM chip part number and tell me which one you have?
Among the MrCART owners, you’ll find two part numbers:
FM16W08-SG
FM18W08-SG
I don’t know what the problem is, I’ll offer solutions.
I apologize for the issues.
With the problem found in MrCARTs with SRAM 16W, RetroOnyx and me will replace this SRAMs for good one.
What is the problem? Low latency time…
Thanks to all to understand it.
