Original Post

MineStorm sent me a FlashBoy with a 3D printed case, and it arrived in the mail today. The plastic is nice and hard, and a good fit in the system. The edge connector is an original, which means the standard-issue dust covers go over it perfectly.

Very well done, man! This thing’s top-notch.

EDIT:
I don’t have a camera handy, but I’ll post pictures before long.

That’s great news! Eagerly awaiting pictures!

How much do they cost to print? It’d be one step closer to no longer requiring donor cartridges, which is just plain fantastic news. πŸ™‚

MineStorm didn’t ask for any money to print a case. So the same price as a FlashBoy with a donor cart.

Anyhoo, pictures!

My god! That is gorgeous! Very slick and just perfect, you are lucky!

Wow looks great, like a piece of art!

guy perfect, thanks for the pics!

minestorm, can you mail you a donor and get one of these cases in return? i would love one for my flash boy! it looks amazing!!

Oh wow… now I’m even more stoked to get mine! I ordered a FlashBoy+ from MineStorm a few days back, and he mentioned that it would come in a 3D-printed case (seems he’s low on donor carts), but I wasn’t sure what to expect until now. Looks incredible!!! πŸ˜€

Holy cow! That looks slick! I still love my gray FB+, but this one raises the bar a few more notches. Nice to see these things evolve.

*two thumbs up*

Wow — I’ve never even SEEN a “3D printed object”! Very professional. I’m ordering one too.

If he’s low on cases, where is he getting the connectors???

That’s what the donor cart, which you send him along with the payment for the FlashBoy Plus, is for. So long as he receives a donor cart with the purchase of every FlashBoy Plus, he always has the connectors for the next FlashBoy Plus that he will make.

He told me he had a surplus of connectors. That’s why he offered to print a case.

Hmmm… if he has a surplus of connectors without having a surplus of cases… then I’m guessing that more cases get broken during the making of FlashBoys, etc. than connectors.

Regardless of the situation, that 3D Printed case looks freakin’ rad. πŸ˜€ After I get paid, I forsee a 3D FB+ in my future. πŸ˜€

I know there was some talk about replacement connectors at one point. Did that ever come to fruition? Did anyone actually find a suitable replacement, or do we still need to cannibalize?

The last I heard, Richard still needs to cannibalize the carts solely for the connectors.

Yes, I busted about 20 cases when I was teaching my engraver to cut the USB hole.

I’ll be back using original cases when I’ve used up the spare connectors.

How much do they cost to print?

Very cheap. 1Kg of PLA filament costs about Β£25, and it make lots and lots.

BTW when Vaughanabe13 finishes his cart, I’m definitely up for printing some custom cases for it.
