So, upon the advice of a friend, I’ve decided to expand my GB game collection while prices are still relatively low. So people of the VB community, are there any GB games you would recommend? Any hidden gems I should snap up?

This one really is one of the best now with the DX treatment!!

Agreed. They gave the same treatment to the first one as well.

I’ve been playing the crap out of that game since the hack released. They did such a good job! I also enjoyed the the SMB1 color hack too. It’s great to lay in bed with the ol SP and play these great games but in color.
I hope people keep making “DX” mods for old B&W gameboy games, it’s such a great idea.

If I download the IPS file from that link, apply it to a Super Mario Land 2 ROM, and then try to run it in BGB, I get the error:

loading rom succeeded with warnings
ROM checksum fails.
A real gameboy wouldn’t care.

And then it doesn’t let me play the game at all. What would be a work-around for this?

I can send you my patched file if you wanna try that.

I collect a lot for the game boy and these are the best of the best in my opinion. I’d at least recommend checking them out on youtube. Not in any particular order:

Trip World
Chalvo 55
The Frog For Whom The Bell Tolls
Wendy: Every Witch Way (Game Boy Color)
Metal Masters
Pokemon (all of them including TCG and pinball)
Banishing Racer
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Game Boy Adventure
Kid Dracula
Spud’s Adventure
WWF Betrayal (Game Boy Color)
Adventure Island II: Aliens in Paradise
Donkey Kong (The 1994 Original GB Game)
Gargoyle’s Quest
Tiny Toon Adventures

A lot of these aren’t very well known. They’re all top notch though.

Do you have any pointers for Metal Masters?? All I can find online is “this game is bad and too hard and impossible.” I can get through a couple of rounds, but it feels like I’m missing some important game mechanic or something.

Yeah, that’d be great!

It seems that the maker made a recent update to the file, which has caused it to be faulty at the moment.

BTW, this makes post # 1995 for me, the year of the Virtual Boy!

So now that I’ve gotten to play Super Mario Land – Pauline, I’m left confused. I take it that the guy Pauline is meeting at the end of each level is supposed to be a fake form of Tatanga, the last boss, and then Pauline runs off with Tatanga at the end of the game after defeating him, is that right?
