Homebrew is not the same as public domain. If you intend to distribute the ROMs you’ve collected you should first obtain the permission of the authors.

Well, thanks to dasi, I’m now down to 7 roms missing:

And dasi, I know that not all homebrew projects are public domain–Dicing Knight for WonderSwan Color comes to mind as an example. But these roms (except for the 2 bad dumps) are demos that were released on the Internet by their authors, thus they’re public domain.

So, once again I’ve attached the GoSub roms I found here for anyone else looking to complete their GoodSet.

It’s disabled after some amount of time (hours?), ostensibly to prevent misuse of the forum.

My “Hello World” demos are also not in the public domain, since they have clear copyright notices in their respective source code files. Personally, from a legal standpoint, I don’t care what label you assign to my stuff (it’s not like companies are falling over themselves to license it from me :-P) but it’s technically not PD.

You should probably just rename the “public domain” tag/label/group/section of your database to “home-made,” or something along those lines, which would cover everything, copyrighted or not. At the very least, assumptions about licensing shouldn’t be made based merely on free availability. It’s not that hard to check for a copyright notice in the program or source-code (where available) or, failing that, to ask the author.

As an aside, I technically own many of the early versions of GoSub, since Chris left my copyright notice intact (just kidding, Chris :-P).

Umm… neither Red Alarm nor Nester’s Funky Bowling are public domain. Their copyrights are held by by T&E Soft and Nintendo respectively.

It’s already been said by several others, but I’ll say it too: You have to be careful there. Just because someone shoves their project onto the internet with source means the project is “public domain”. Sometimes the intent is to release it free and clear, but in most cases the copyright still belongs to the person who wrote it. It’s only legally public domain if the author forfeits copyright on it, and that’s hard to do sometimes. It’s best to ask the author of the software before you decide that because you got it for free, it must be public domain.

Am I the only one who finds this thread funny? There’s someone out there making a zip for a “complete set” of homebrew so your GoodRoms will say LOLZ CONGRATZ 4 COLECTIN TEH COMPLEET SET!!!!!111. And I thought “collecting” all commercial ROMs was pointless 😛 .

Does anyone actually use GoodRoms anymore?

Lol, yeah. There will never be a “complete” set of homebrew roms. I can release a new build every hour if I wanted to, will you be able to keep up? 😛

Besides, the Homebrew listing of GoodVboy is incomplete and sometimes horribly named (“This Demo Owes ALOT to RunnerPack HelloWorld SpriteExam 1 (PD)”). 😉 I don’t see the point in collecting bad ROMs either.
