I’m sure most know of the Patreon project for the VUEngine guys (if you don’t click on the link at the be bottom, check it out, and contribute)

We also know Mellott124 is working on a cart programmer and who knows what else.

But what about the rest of the community? Even if very limited info can be shared, I’m sure most here would love to know whats in the pipeline for PlanetVB whether its a Homebrew Game, Accessory, Dev Tool, or whatever!

So if anyone is willing to share, lets hear it!!

I’m spearheading an emulator initiative to bring good VB emulation to 3DS and a good reverse engineering and TAS application to desktop.

Still working away at bringing the CIB set to completion!
Of the six titles two have already been released with the third on it’s way! (Can you guess which it is?)

I’m also working on and about to finish creating printable versions of the pack in inserts that came with Virtual Boy games. This way we can make new CIBs without needing to harvest things from actual games.

Then, my own Virtual Boy title!! πŸ˜€

Nice of you to ask, I wanted post about this for some time. As some of you might have noticed, I wasn’t as active for quite some time. That was mainly caused by having a slipped disk a year ago which was a rather painful experience. While I’m mostly pain-free right now, I can’t sit on my couch and program Virtual Boy games while watching TV with my wife anymore.

That’s why I started building up a proper home-office. I’ve build a pretty cool desk already, bought a better monitor and a mechanical keyboard. I still need a proper chair (long time sitting is quite hell) and might buy a better second monitor. I also will need to somehow plan VB programming into my daily schedule as I can’t just do it while doing other stuff anymore.

However, here are the projects I’m working on:

Game Hero Legends
It’s about time I build a better version of this. I actually already rewrote my code that handles images and music (the VB code as well as the converters that I integrated into vbde). I had a guy doing graphics for me but he dropped out because he was busy with other stuff. So I might need some help there. I guess I will also need to buy Resharper and clion to speed things up a bit.

Snatcher
That one needs a complete rewrite. The tool I wrote for ripping data from the original game is just awful. The VB code isn’t that great as well. The game is also getting really big so I might wait for the bigger Flashcards from Kevin. When I return I might need some help with all the stereoscopic images and transcripts and so on. I will also need to buy photoshop again.

Tools
I have quite a number of tools for converting music, images, creating 3D from 2D images and other stuff. I would like to integrate everything into vbde also.

Rom Hacks
I have so many ideas for ROM-Hacks.

Open Source
I think the community will have the greatest benefit when sources are made public. Almost all projects somehow base on code that has been written ages ago by the early members of the community. There has been allot archived since then but somehow most developers don’t publish sources. Usually the reason for not publishing sources is code quality but I think people can also learn from ugly code. So I plan on making my projects open source (I released sources for everything I completed already).

None VB related stuff
I actually started a number of not VB related projects. You can talk to me on discord if you are interested.

It’s so exciting to hear of the many projects in the works by all you talented folks! I envy your skill and knowledge on the subjects.

I hope you can be entirely pain-free soon Thunderstruck. I’ve got my own back issues right now and I can kind of relate to the pain.

You and I are in the same boat, brother. Still trying to complete my cart collection as well though, so you’ve got me beat there! Good luck to you!

Didn’t want to quote your entire post, but I really wish you a speedy recovery with your back issues. I’ve had to deal with some myself in the past and know how horrible and debilitating it can be.

Very excited to see all of your ideas come to fruition, especially Snatcher! If you are willing, I would love to hear some of the ROM Hack ideas! I was just thinking the other day how cool it would be to get more simple to use level editors n such like we got with FacEdit and InsmEdit.

I don’t really have any programming skills myself, but love to mess around with any level editors, map editors, etc when given the chance.

Thought maybe I’d give this thread a bump since it’s about a year old now, see if anyone else has anything that isn’t already publicly known!

Thunderstruck, how are all those projects going you previously mentioned?

I still have allot of projects going. Limited time forces them to a halt quite often which frustrates me a lot.

I did do a few simpler ROM hacks which I talked about in my original post. I still have plenty of very cool ideas for other ROM-Hacks.

I also wrote a rather advanced image converter which i hope to release open source this year. I did also integrate it into vbde. Started to do the same for music as well.

Morintari and I are still making GameHero Legends. The fact that I had to move and reoccurring health problems slowed everything down a bit. Next step here will be to write a animation system (yet again). The current one is too slow and tries to solve problems that don’t even exist for this game. So I will have to take a step back and rethink my approach.

I also spent quite some time on hardware projects, motivated by Kevin and furrtek.

I would so love to finally do more Snatcher.

Another think I want to do is do more youtube videos and twitch streams to open up VB development to a wider audience. I created the accounts and everything (you might have noticed that most of my accounts are called thunderstruckProjects now). I’m really just need more time. You can go and follow me on twitch already if you like: https://www.twitch.tv/thunderstruckProjects

I have many more ideas for projects. Not all of them being VB related though.

Thank you ThunderStruck for mentioning me. Work is slow, but only because it’s quality. I hope PVB will approve of the results.

M.K., the guy that created the GameBoy emulator for Virtual Boy, is working on a VB music tracker and a game.

I’m more excited for his tracker. His plan of releasing it last week in March has died, most likely because of more additional bugs he needs to fix before it’s ready to release.

I have designed a replacement flex cable for the VB LED boards that is intended to prop up the weakest part of the console. I’m also working on a modified VirtualTap (thus far dubbed the VirtualTap 2.0) with a few secret features, one of which should absolutely blow people’s minds.

…if I get it to work.

I’ve also designed a couple of breakout boards for the VirtualTap – one for RGB, and one for VGA.

I’ve got a little somethin’ in the works…

Speaking of the VB Gameboy emulator, I’m not clear on this, but what was the very last release of it? And, is it dead or potentially open for more updates by the author or through open source? I’m just thinking about it with the new kit coming up there would be more room to store the little games without such confining space of the flashboy plus holding it back.

I’m currently working on my next Virtual Boy YT series called Return to the 3rd Dimension. I had a friend of mine make me an intro for it. Here’s the intro for those interested: https://youtu.be/vqZUPCtuJK0

This is so exciting! I am still bummed I missed out on the original VirtualTap’s but I am glad others are keeping it alive for future purchase πŸ™‚

Look forward to hearing more about the additional features you are looking to implement as well!!

Nothing too special, but as soon as I get my hands on the Labo VR I am going to see how I can create a stand for it, as my Switch is hacked to run Virtual Boy games πŸ™‚

Bumping this thread just for a check-in. I wonder if anyone has anything to add that they are working on these days?

I too am curious about everyone’s updates/status.

Especially the
VirtualTap

Yans World
GameHero Legends &
Maiden

I decided not to continue working on Game Hero Legends. I’m finishing some translation patches right now, so every Japanese game has a full English translation.

I’m not sure what to do after that but I’m considering releasing my image converter. Maybe even making it open source.

If there ever was actually good VirtualBoy emulation on the 3DS which actually used the 3D screen then I would definitely have to buy a 3DS
