Hey all- I’m just curious to hear what kind of music you listen to :). It would be fun to meet some other metal fans, but I’m always interested to see what everybody’s Microsoft Zunes or Creative Zen Media Players are filled with regardless.

Also- does anyone listen to “real” music while playing video games? Listening to something fast and heavy during racing games has always been one of my favorite pastimes. VB-wise, I’ve had some epic sessions of completely zoning out for hours while combining Galactic Pinball with some more complex music in the background.

it’s video game music done right and best of all it’s free!:-) When I’m not listening to that, I like to listen to 80 tunes. I’m a little old fashioned I admit but once and a while I do enjoy One Republic.

I was famous for this when in the Era of the N64 (shoulda bought more VB stuff…. darnit):-(. I would often set the music to mute while having the sfx blasting while Playing Star Fox 64 and Wave Race. My personal fav was playing Star Fox 64 to Star Wars themes… Radical!:-)

Good link, there’s some cool stuff in there!

I always used to make a big playlist and play Test Drive Unlimited for hours, just driving around Hawaii in different cars (dash view, of course!) For older games though, something about most of the old games just had some classic tunes, or just the way they sound, just brings me back. I find I don’t even enjoy a lot of them as much without the original sound playing.

As for real music..it’s allll over the place. From orchestrated stuff to heavy metal, to lighter rock, to rap. Look up the Bit Trip music though, I friggin love the music that’s in those games.

I like a lot of different music.. I like to say I like everything except jazz. Hate jazz. EXCEPT… sometimes it fits into a game and can be good but just jazz on it’s own is annoying to me, it never goes anywhere, has no proper melody, it just sort of goes on and on.

Anyway, most of my winamp playlist where I have everything is video game music (probably 65-70%) and of VG music I like 8-16 bit music the most.

With “regular songs” I tend to prefer rock, pop, metal(Pantera are the roughest I like I think) and 80s music so to speak… I think the Scarface soundtrack is awesome, some 80s power ballads are great, classic 50s rock is great, some rap is great(west coast mostly) some classical music like Beethoven etc is great, there’s just something great to find in most genres and time periods. Except dubstep probably. Actually most newer songs I don’t like that much.

Not a clear answer but there ya go.

Wow, I never would have thought of doing Star Wars music to get into a spacey mood for Star Fox! That’s great :). I did figure out the ‘mute game music’ function eventually, that was a game changer so to speak.

Nowadays, platformer type games usually have decent music or are too weird to play with my own mix in the background. Sports and driving ones need some assistance though. The other day I was playing some ATV Quad Fury thing on GameCube, and chose a rather aggressive mix to get into a competitive mood- Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour of Penance, Allegaeon…

Otherwise, here are some bands I’ve been listening to a lot lately:

Iced Earth
Mystic Prophecy
Lykathea Aflame
Blaze Bayley
Fleshgod Apocalypse
Arsis
Inquisitor (I hope their singer goes on American Idol hehe)
Snot
Mushroomhead
Slipknot
Cryptopsy
Alchemist/The Levitation Hex
Decrepit Birth
God Dethroned
Anthrax
Necrophagist
Obscura
Fifth Season
Origin
Paradox (great German thrash!)

…just a lot of metal. I don’t really like jazz either 🙂
