It’s not Jack Bros. or anything, but I just got a good deal on a sealed copy of Virtual League Baseball on eBay. I don’t think I’d play that game very much, though I am interested in viewing/handling the inserts, since I’ve never actually had the opportunity to open a new in box VB game (I sadly was not a VB owner back in the 90s, I only got to play Mario’s Tennis on a Blockbuster unit back in 95/96). I do not own any other sealed Virtual Boy games, and don’t have any for other systems either, besides Knight Move for Famicom Disk System, which frankly I *would* like to play but it looks so minty lol.
I know shrinkwrap etiquette is kind of a polarizing topic in retro video game circles, so I was wondering what people around here think. Also if anyone has had their own sealed Virtual Boy games get damaged over time?
LOL As you know, UnumSolum it’s too late!
(if anyone sees this in the future – I did ask in the Discord and it was nearly unanimous to open it)
I have so much respect for people that can open sealed collectibles.
When Covid first happened I thought the end was neigh and I unsealed a $100 LP. now its regret! haha
What I will do sometimes to prevent damage is loose in the shrinkwrap by cutting it just in certain spots, so its not squeezed so tight on there. But I still leave it sealed enough thats its new. cause Im weird 😛
It’s not weird! I get it. I couldn’t bring myself to open something super super valuable, but I do like actually using stuff. And I really did enjoy the experience of opening a Virtual Boy game!
Opening one of these in 2025 is incredible. It’s a step back into nostalgia. Thanks for sharing your experience!

It seems that in this world, all the crazy people come together. You are not alone in this. 😛
Just as an aside, as an original collector of VB since ’95, I find it amusing that you say you got a “good deal on a sealed copy of Virtual League Baseball.” I can recall when you could buy a case of those on ebay for next-to-nothing, cause it was such an unpopular game on an unpopular system. I toyed with buying a bunch at the time to stockpile them, but didn’t. Story of my life!
Honestly sealed copies only going for about $50 isn’t much of an increase 30 years later, it’s for the best you didn’t stockpile them. Jack Bros, on the other hand, though…!
