On this day, 30 years ago, the Virtual Boy was released in Japan. In celebration of the Virtual Boy’s 30th birthday, Simon Gellis has released Virtual Picross, a Virtual Boy themed classic Picross game that features 30 puzzles with motives from the Virtual Boy’s game library, referencing every officially released game. Check it out!

Got a birthday present yourselves? Tag it with “Virtual Boy 30th Anniversary“.

Exciting! New game 🎮 for the 30th anniversary, looking forward to trying this after work today. Great stuff Simon

WOW! NICE! Will play it after work today right away!
Btw, I can´t get any further than to the title screen in the online emulator.

Heads up – the ROM has been replaced with a new build. Works fine in the online emulator now.

Yes, can confirm that this works now! Thanks 🙂

Fantastic!

This game is a lot of fun. So happy to see that Megu-tan was included from Virtual Lab! I’m sure she’d love if you shared this with her on Twitter. Thanks, Simon!

Something strange: on my HF32 all pictures are shown in the selection screen, and there are strange highscore values.
I blacked out the other pictures to avoid spoilers.

Oops, look like the game doesn’t check save data for validity, and cleanly initializes it when the data isn’t valid. So the game just interpreted whatever save data there was on your HF32 already. 🙂

Oh incredible! I love puzzle games! Awesome new hombrew!

@KR155E?
Can I do something against it?
I don´t want to see all pictures upfront before having solved them.

I’ll release a new version tonight which fixes this. Sorry, didn’t know you couldn’t trust SRAM to be zeroed out.

No worries, thank you very much!

New version out!

Where?

I simply replaced the previous ROM.

Thanks all 🙂
Will try the updated ROM after work today.

Can confirm that it works now 🙂 The puzzles need to be solved like they are supposed to be before showing the picture.
A last question: is there a button code to delete the save state again somehow?
