This is kind of a small question for a whole forum post, but the sudden appearance of this game has me curious. Was this game ever announced 30 years ago, whether in magazines and whatnot? Or was this game completely unknown until recently? There certainly isn’t any extra promo material online from what I can tell.
Other than the Japanese version, the North American version was never announced to my knowledge. I have never come across a magazine mention. But there’s the ESRB rating to be found on the EESRB website that has been a very strong hint the game did not only exist but was also finished or at least close to being finished.
Wow, I have actually overlooked this magazine section but I hugely thank you for telling me about it. I feel like this game was glossed over when it comes to lists of “cancelled virtual boy games” because while I knew of several others like Goldeneye, Dragon Hopper, Power Rangers, Doraemon, etc, I didn’t even know this game existed until very recently. Anyways, I figured I’d leave these snapshots here, although four of them use the same in game screenshot, and two of these magazines page designs are very similar to one another. This list of upcoming games at the time also comes from a description of Famicom Space World ’95 which came up while researching this game;
“Many new games for the Virtual Boy were shown by third parties, giving their debuts on the show. A few were reportedly playable, like Polygo Block and Virtual Block.”
