Super Robot Daikūsen is an unreleased spin-off to the Super Robot Wars series for the Nintendo Virtual Boy that was cancelled in the planning stages. The project was never officially announced, but revealed on Twitter by the series’ producer, Takanobu Terada. According to Terada, it was “a vertical-scrolling shooter where, upon being shot down, your craft would transform into a cockpit-separating fighter or a pre-combination form.” It would have “featured various red units like Getter Robo & Combattler V”. Furthermore, Terada vaguely recalls the idea of the player’s craft transforming upon destruction likely having influenced Super Robot Wars α’s Hover Pilder and Core Fighter designs.
