Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I really don’t know how to call up different parts of a character map. I did what you suggested, but am at a loss over what to do next. I’ve attached the VIDE file so you can help me on how to call up different parts of it.

Fixed it!

Added a level intro that says how many lives you have left and the level you’re starting on. If you press up, down, left or right, it goes away because I need that character segment for the torpedo. And if you’ll notice in the top left corner, when you activate the sub, for one frame, you’ll see the torpedo there and it goes away. I tried for a few HOURS to get it gone, tried just about everything, but still couldn’t get it to disappear. Why?

I don’t think I could have this finished by November 1.

A few hours later, and I’ve made a lot of changes. I’ve changed the title screen, and when you press a button it goes into a sample level. Here’s where it gets kind of weird and I need some help. In Reality Boy, the game runs like I want it to (submarine, torpedo and octopus speeds are good), but in Mednafen, they are slow as molasses. Which is closer to the real thing? And if you can try it out on a Flashboy and let me know the speeds of the sprites, it’d be real great. I know I should get one, but I can’t afford it right now.

Do you have $2,500 handy? If so, you can get every single Virtual Boy game ever released in both Japan and the U.S.Every single VB game on eBay.

Made it so the cursor cannot be on a space that is already marked. I also made the winning combo (if there is one) blink.

Added a scrolling background in the game (it only scrolls when the game is in progress.) To do this, I had to get rid of the cursor and replace it with a flashing X.

What do you mean by 3D? You mean like the title screen, where something is behind something?

I think I’ve added just about all I can. Music isn’t an option because I don’t know how to add it, so I think it’s just about finished. what do you think?

Added win, loss, and tie speech samples.

“Let’s play Tic-Tac-Toe!” The first of what I hope to be many voice samples in the game. And yes, it’s supposed to be in a high-pitched voice, it’s the way I wanted it to be. Remember, Reality Boy does not do sound.

Hey, I got another question for ya. Can I change the Planet Virtual Boy startup screen? I want to put an X and O instead of the VB logo similar to what Faceball was going to do.

I looked into the VBDev Wiki and looked at the sounds, and it all seems like gibberish. I was just wondering if there’s any way to incorporate a MIDI I made into my game. I see something like the MIDI Player and I want to do something like that, but there is no source code provided for an example.

Now that everything is working all right, I got an idea to add some sounds (that is, if I can get the WAV converter working…) A title announcement “Tic Tac Toe ‘Ten!”, an “aw nutz!” sample if you lose, and a “yay!” if you win. I don’t know how to program music on the Virtual Boy, so you won’t be hearing any. I wish I could.

Question: Can I change a game after I release it (i.e. fix something if I find something wrong?)

Yep, that worked. Thank you, Dan!

OK, I played like 20-some-odd games with this version and nothing strange happened, although those stupid half-squares keep showing up. I really wish someone would tell me how to get rid of them.

The F and 90-degree angles are the half-squares I have been talking about. I don’t really know how to get rid of them. Anyone have any ideas about that? As for the AI, it wasn’t supposed to be “unbeatable”, just not stupid.

OK, I think I fixed those bugs. I also removed the O at the beginning in the upper right-hand corner. I want to know why those half-squares appear in place of spaces in text and how to remove them.
