Hi, A couple of nights ago I picked up a large store display (like the one in the Michael Jackson auction) in near mint condition. It also had the Red Alarm demo disk that came with it originally. I paid $240 for it, with an NES, SNES and about 12 games for the later systems. So after I sell the NES and SNES I will have paid about $130 dollars for the display. I need to put it on my insurance so if anyone could help me put a value on it, it would be greatly appreciated.

You’re one lucky guy! I wanted to own one forever, but to get one, it would cost me at least 1000 Euro (plus finding one and the seller would have to agree to ship to Germany). More than half of this would be for shipping…

About your question, I think the value is around $600.

BTW, what’s with those inlays on the wings? Do they have the VB logo on both sides? That’d be unusual.

Thanks for the info. I got very lucky that day, for a change. I saw the add on Craigslist, called the guy, by the time I drove the 8 miles to his house to buy it he had 3 or 4 more calls on it. My thoughts on the value of it are $1000 to $1500. I’m going to insure it for $2000 just to be safe.
As far as the logo on the wings I’ll have to double check that when I pull it out of the van and get it all set up. I will say its the most beautifull game system I have ever seen. The pictures don’t even come close to showing how nice it is in person.

Congrats… those are pretty cool displays. Not sure about insuring it for $2K though… if something happens to it, typically when you make a claim you’ll need to prove it’s value regardless of what you said it’s worth (sale of an equivalent item, or have a written appraisal from an expert, etc)… insuring it for more than it’s worth is probably just gonna cost you more in insurance premiums. Although prices do fluctuate a LOT on stuff like this, you’re not going to get much more of an expert’s opinion than that of the guy running the largest VB website.

I personally would pay about $400 for it, but I know that I’m pretty cheap. My best bet of finding one would be one popping up within driving distance on ebay. The last time I saw one for sale, it didn’t get any bids at the opening bid of $500, which I assume is mostly because of shipping (it would have been at least $300 to get it here). Something like that really has more of a local market like arcade games, but unfortunately the VB is much less popular than most arcade games. I’ve heard of so many large video game store displays being destroyed because they’re so big and nobody wants to pay shipping on them… luckily the VB is kinda an oddball and you can probably find someone at least willing to pay a few bucks plus the massive shipping for the thing.

DogP hit the nail on the head about shipping… unfortunately I’m in the same boat as KR155, can’t seem to find one of these stands locally.

I found a couple over time on eBay but the sellers wouldn’t even bother shipping them due to the weight, and I wasn’t about to drive across the country for it. As for value, that is really hard to pin down… I personally would value a VB display that is in excellent condition for about $600.

i think ups may have an option to come to your house and pick up/package something, in addition to shipping it. if not ups, i know there are other places that do. you could probably get someone on ebay to go with that if you set it up. but then again, we’re talking about a massive shipping bill. i dont have one of those things but i’m lucky enough to work in a building that has one. if i ever get an itch i can just go look at it and not have the need to buy one.

What kind of building could possibly still have one of these around? 😮 Are you by any chance working at a Toys R Us in 1995? ;P
