When i first bought my VB, the left eye didnt work and the right eye worked, then the right eye started glitching up, blacked out then came back the other day, 3 days later, the left eye worked spontaneously without even opening it at all. Then i left the Virtual Boy set to middle in the IPD dial for two weeks, came back and both eyes were double vision, left eye was double at the same position and right eye was double but a little bit distanced. waited awhile and the right eye got fixed by itself and then soon the left eye blacked out but then came back for a few seconds, but now its finally back, BOTH EYES.

As you see, with all my experiences with the Virtual Boy, i did not even open it all , didnt mess with the innards or soldered or heated anything. THE BEST SOLUTION IS PATIENCE! Atleast to me, i mean my Virtual Boy went through many glitchy displays and it still managed to turn normal after awhile. I even thought of opening the darn thing, but now my Virtual Boy works perfectly.

If you ever encountered glitchy displays, double visions, blank displays( trust me, all these things happened to MY Virtual Boy) and it went all away just by waiting for a few days. Also my cousin got a Virtual Boy from the same place and he had glitchy displays and it soon went away. So this entitles to many other Virtual Boys, not just mine.

I hope this helps! BE PATIENT WITH YOUR VIRTUAL BOY!

Perhaps Virtual Boys are like humans in a way, sometimes they get sick (also known glitchy screens) but in a few days or so (most of the time) they get better

on a silly note: but if you feel your Virtual Boy isn’t getting better after long periods of time you can always take them to see Dr. Mario πŸ˜‰

LOL! I hope you’re kidding. I mean… seriously? There’s lots of “intermittent” problems, and being patient isn’t the solution. When your car only starts every now and then, do you just wait until tomorrow, when the temperature/moisture will be different, which may fix whatever problem exists? And if not, maybe the next day? What happens when it finally does start, then you get to where you’re going and it doesn’t start again?

Or… when the TV only works when you smack the side of it… is the solution to just smack the side of it, or get a mechanical hand with remote control to smack it (so you can do it from the couch πŸ˜› )?

These displays don’t “fix” themselves (and they’re definitely not “sick” or self-healing)… they intermittently work, which means they also intermittently don’t work. If you’re fine with having a VB that works only when it feels like it, and will progressively get worse, then feel free to be “patient”. For everyone else, I recommend actually repairing the displays.

Yeah I know, Dr. Mario is all the way in the mushroom kingdom, really far away to get a VB repaired πŸ˜›

I don’t have a car and I don’t think the VB is one

The VB isn’t a TV either but repairing the VB would be better than smacking it (I detest VB abuse)

some VBs are just finicky, maybe said VBs were previously owned by a VB hater

[size=xx-small]all above comments are for entertainment purposes only, nothing above is to be taken too seriously but it is true that I do not support or participate in VB abuse and it is also true I do not own a car, I also do not own a license or bumper stickers that say “Long Live the Virtual Boy”

Good thing you put that disclaimer at the bottom, otherwise I would have had to smack you silly πŸ˜›

That’s like saying: “It works perfectly fine as long as you don’t actually use it”…

If you want to be able to use it, setting the knobs and so on the way you like it, you have to repair it properly. The way they mounted it 15 years (or more) ago is not sufficient.

[size=xx-small]exactly, I was afraid of that πŸ˜‰

I dunno about you guys,
i recently purchased this Virtual Boy in Brand new condition.
As i said, my Virtual boy got double visions, blank screens, and horizontal lines and they went away, the only way of fixing is to play it everyday(thats what i did)

I would want to repair the displays, but i cant seem to find screwdrivers for it. Also as i said, i got lots of glitchy screns, blacked out screens and even horizontal lines and they tend to go away. I dunno maybe its cuz my Virtual Boy is brand new and unopened that it works great. I dunno what happens to other Virtual Boys. Just need to get some kickass games thats all, thinking of getting Flashboy.

You clearly don’t understand why the VB has the glitchy display problem… Anyway I’m glad it worked out for you, just don’t spread this “fix” to anyone else.

I don’t think the cable problem has anything to do with new or used… it’d be pretty hard to damage the cable connection from abuse, since the cable is so light and well shaped, and everything with much mass is rigidly secured to the case. The worst thing you could do would be to play with the IPD adjustment a lot (or leave it at the maximum inward position).

If you want to see another display cable from a BRAND NEW VB… check this out: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=10333#forumpost10333 . I also had another brand new one with problems, though the cable physically looked fine (I think that problem was caused by the stress of the IPD being adjusted inward during storage).

DogP

I left my VB for 2 weeks while the IPD adjustment was inward and maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, i came back , it had glitchy double visions! i freaked out, but as i told u guys, its normal now. just keep the IPD dial left always then
