Anyone have a boxed copy for sale at a reasonable price? I had to sell most of my collection 7 years back to pay for some college projects (bad move on my part). Fortunately I have all but two of the US games still (Water World and Vertical force, which i have the Japanese version of) and I still have Space Invaders, but I sold my good japanese games, including Virtual Lab; so now I must rebuild!

Does anyone have Innsmouth no Yakata for sale right now? It used to be one of my favorites. Additionally, right now I’m looking for:

Innsmouth no Yakata (really Miss)
Space Squash (really Miss)
Virtual Fishing
Waterworld (not a priority unless the price is right)
Baseball (japanese Version) (not a priority, but will pay $10 right now)
Vertical Force (US version) (not a priority, but will pay $10 right now)

I know, mostly harder to find games. If anyone has decent prices (or good places to shop) I would be VERY happy (especially if someone takes pity on someone who misses his collection and gives me some super nice deals).

Let me know. I live in NYC and I’m trying to keep the cost below $80 each (below $50 for some). Waterworld is not a priority (because it sucked) but if the price is right I’ll buy now.

Man, I cannot believe I had EVERYTHING except Gundam and Virtual Bowling back in 2001 (that includes Virtual Lab and the Performance case).

No, but I know where you can get a boxed copy of Space Squash. It turned up on swedish ebay (called Tradera). The guy accepts international bidders, but you’d have to sign up, I think.

It’s 575 SEK which 90 USD, with probably another 10-15 USD in shipping.

I know you were all waiting with baited breath for an update here; well, I got Insmouse and Squash and Fishing, so I’m back to full strength (except for Virtual Lab, But I can wait on that one).

Dude, thank you so much; but Since posting this I’m back to my original Strength. In the past two months I’ve Scored the five “cheep but rare” games again; Fishing, Squash, Insmouse, Jack Bros (jp) and Water World.

Right now I need three of the Big four, But I need them for under $350 each: Gundam, Bowling (JP), and Lab.

When It comes to Space Invaders I have the cart, but I DO need the Box and Instructions If anyone out there knows where to score those on a budget.

OH, I need a CIB copy of Vertical Force (US). Aside from Jack Bros. (which I have in Japanese) its the only US game I’m missing.

Cool. What about the Big four? What sort of prices are those fetching out there (Lab, bowling, Gundam, Invaders)?

5000 yen is very expansief for one in japan in osaka or akihabra you will find them allot cheaper

last time i whas there whas last summer
space invaders whas 20.000 yen at super patato akihabra
vrtual lab sold for 70.000 yen on yahoo iff i am correct
not so long ago
sd gundam i think will be about 50.000 to 70.000 yen that whas 3 years ago when i whas ther
virtual bowling probely about 100.000 yen + ( when i have buy mine 4 or 5 years ago it whas allot lower )

this all in about 5 years that i whas in japan and have seen this prices

This might be your best chance to get Virtual Lab for close to $350.00.

I think your best bet for finding any of those 3 games for that low of a price is to check Yahoo Auctions Japan on a regular basis for a long time and hope that an auction appears with a low starting bid and that not too many people will notice.

Yeah. What I’m REALLY hoping for though is a friend hitting up shops in Japan (Akihabra, or whatever the otaku district is called) and finding me some.

She is out there right now, and plans on hitting some retro game shops come Wednesday. I Sent her pics and Instructions regarding those three games. I told her that even if she finds duplicates she can get up to four games at or below that price each since I can always sell a duplicate and share any profit with her. I also told her that if she sees any of them below 9,000¥ loose that I’d be down (something else I doubt will actually happen).

Unfortunately I seriously doubt she will find them below 34,000 ¥, if at all. Any suggestions on where to roam specifically to find VB games out there (specifically the big four)?

“The Big Four”; Is that a term people use? Can we start using it? Its fairly intuitive as far as its meaning in the context of the VB.

In the akihabra district you will not find this games
Maybe only space invaders at superpatato but that will cost you about 20.000 yen
asking them will be also hard beacouse they dont speak english there in akihabra ( or can she speak japans ?)
under 9000 yen for loose cards will also be impossible there

sorry to tell this but also in japan this games are hard to find ( best way is yahoo )or go yor self to japan and go to evry game store in wholly japan ad hope you find what you looking for

Going to Japan and hitting up shops there probably is the best way to find games for the cheapest. If she does happen to get you good deals on any of the big 4 games, you will have to brag to us. 🙂

Multiple Virtual Boy enthusiasts in the past have used “The Big Four” term to refer to those games, so yes, it has already been in use for a long time and likely will be for many years to come, unless another VB game becomes exceedingly rare, and then there will have to be the big 5 or more.

SUPER POTATO! that’s the shop name I couldn’t remember!

It makes sense that “big Four” has been term for a while. I think they will remain the big four since as the prices of other games rise, so will they. Maybe they will Become “The Japanese Big Four” as the US Jack Bros and Waterworld Climb in price (I also feel Vertical Force US is due for a Price Jump).

I know its a long shot to find those games even out there in shops, but its also the best chance to get them at decent prices. She speaks a little Japanese, but is with two friends who speak it as their second and first languages respectively.

Pipe dream that anything will come of it really, but there is always hope (and its a lot more likely then finding it at a retro game shop out here at ANY price).

Even though the big 4 are very rare everywhere, they are certainly the least rare in Japan, and it does seem that Japanese sellers do not try to place as high of prices on them as sellers in the rest of the world.

I speculate that there is probably some old video game store owner in Japan who isn’t even fully aware of all of his inventory stock, and if he would ever go through all of the boxes in his storage space, he will find an unopened 20-piece box of SD Gundam Dimension War or Virtual Bowling.

If he does, he may even then decide to put it up for auction just to get rid of the darn thing. (fingers crossed)

Yeah, isn’t that how Mak keeps scoring all those US Baseball carts (some insane amount of old stock someone had sitting about). Or Cheetah Men II for the NES a few years back years back.
