I had been working on a custom amiibo for a few days and I finished painting him on the Virtual Boy’s birthday coincidentally. Well, today I finished the box I made for it. I hope you all enjoy.

Oh wow, that’s amazing quality. How did you make the card backing?

I peeled the existing artwork off of the original box and then used photoshop to create a new cover for the front and back, printed them out and then used a glue stick to adhere it to the card backing. Crazy glue was used to adhere the plastic to the card backing. Here are my files (modified an existing template): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qkwfhinep00n05a/AADfhRJ4r0Jw3cClVnYh2ghWa?dl=0

Ermagerrd that’s such a good idea! I like it, good job!

That’s absolutely fantastic work! I actually really want one now after a second glance.

Wow, I’m seriously impressed.

It looks like an official product.

Super nice job! Very impressed.

Thanks everyone! I’ve been given the idea by a few folks to turn it into a series where I make a “Virtual Boy line” of amiibo and make a Ryu for Hyper Fighting, Mario for Mario’s Tennis, Samus for Galactic Pinball, etc. I’ve been overwhelmed by positive responses by people in FB groups and on Twitter. I wish the VB got this much love outside of us fans 😂

Here’s the video on how it was done: https://youtu.be/zprNQKyQtS0

That’s really cool! if i didn’t know better I would be convinced it was an official amiibo by Nintendo

Thanks! I put my heart into this one. 🙂

It’s superior, I’d like to own one. I’m sure many of us would.

I’m hoping Nintendo rereleases the Super Mario line of amiibo with the upcoming Super Mario Party. If they do I will be more than happy to make you guys customs! I can do them now but since the Wario amiibo is expensive on the second hand market, it gets costly to make

I checked and yes it is quite expensive.

Amiibos and Virtual Boy! Two of my favorite things. You did an amazing job it really looks fantastic. I had one quick question. I looked over the PSD files and it seems like I am missing a few of the fonts. I was able to find all of them except VirtualLogo. Do you have a pointer to that font or know of a suitable substitute I’d be forever grateful.

Thank you so much! The Virtual Logo font I found on here. One of the members made it for us all. Here’s the link https://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3812&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0

Thanks for the pointer to the font. That’s super helpful. I’m going to give recreating this for myself. Thanks for sharing the files and the video!

Did you use any particular paper for the print outs? Did you use something glossy?

Have you started work on any of the others?

No worries! I’m just glad someone here had the talent and generosity to make share that fin t here for us. Since I can’t program I like to lend a hand where I can (like with images). I’m glad you liked my video too 😊 It’s not the highest quality but it’s good enough for people to get the idea.

For the print outs I used normal paper. Nothing fancy. As far as any other a Meebo, I haven’t started them yet. Right now I’m working on a custom virtual boy controller that looks like the prototype. I have the colored buttons but I still want to get the custom logo made to match the one on the real controller

Here’s the progress I’ve made so far following your lead. I need to smooth out the paint with another coat but I think it’s looking okay so far. I went with a little variant and did another shade of red to highlight the lighter colors in Wario sprites in the game. The current hat is just a placeholder until I can model the safari hat. I’m also toying with some ideas on how to make a checkered base instead of all black. Thanks so much for sharing everything and being an inspiration to build one of these!

It’s coming along great! I love how you used different shades of red to show the different shades in game. For the checkered base, I suggest using tape and use it as a stencil of sorts so you can get straight lines.

I’m so flattered that you have found the project so fun and inspirational 😊
