Was browsing Assembler and came across this. I know a lot of people are looking for this game, so I figured I’d post it here. Cart only and no label though.

One caveat, I have no idea who this dude is, so purchase at your discretion. Price is also a little much for just the cart (I paid $85 for CIB I seem to recall). But since these aren’t readily available I guess that’s alright.

if a handful of carts were recovered and made into CIB releases, i would personally like to see them go to long-standing planet VB members who were unable to purchase one the 1st time around. nothing personal, honestly. its just hard to validate every 1 post member asking for a copy of HF. i just don’t want to see more end up for sale at ridiculous prices.

the reproduction thing started out as a trade deal. donor carts for a reproduction. it always seemed like a way to hook up the community. a way to honor our beloved vb. a way to keep us gaming. nothing against the professionalism of the boxed reproductions, my HF CIB is really nice and everything, but i feel like it detracts from the gaming element and focuses more on collecting. if everyone could have traded donors for a reproduction, perhaps this never would have happened.

also, i’d be remiss not to point out that this game was never intended for the public. ben’s post about it is worth reading if you have not already. really, he should be the only one playing anything more than a demo.

anyways, just my opinions here. don’t take them personally.

FYI I never wanted the carts sold with boxes.

Soon as you add packaging the resale value increases dramatically. It also tricks EBay buyers into thinking it was an official (Nintendo) release.

Who are they ? What long-standing members have you talked to that don’t have it and have expressed an interest ?

I’m probably not “long-standing” but I’d enjoy a loose copy of Hyper Fighting if given the opportunity to buy one. If not then eventually a Flash Boy Plus would be sweet.

I don’t have access to a listing of who purchased it. Perhaps most members already own it. I’ve no idea and I don’t want to debate my opinion for who I feel are long upstanding members. What I will add is that there were people here contributing to the site, and involved with conversations and the community long before HF was a thing. So who I would offer a copy to doesn’t really matter. I would just hope that they end up in appreciative hands.

I think every REAL collector would love a copy in any condition. Until today I have yet to part with any item in my collection and some have a decent value. Some may call this hoarding, but to me. Every bit I found or bought, has a story. Right now I’m starting to think of releasing a few of the more common items but that’s only stuff that anyone could buy, and I have more than two of. No real collector would sell a gem like HF unless it was to save his family.

My point here is that the prices that the games go for on the internet are crazy. If the guys really want to sell the games then they do not have a bond with it and the asking price is way out of its league. I hope to catch a game some day… hoping to be approached by a mystery person who is so kind to share this unique piece with me, but I can tell you now that it will probably never be for resale no matter what the price is. Because I admire the items that I own and almost none are kept in shrink-wrap. Because then I can not enjoy the full experience the item gives. And thats what collecting is. Its not about money, but about a feeling.

And sadly, thats how I feel about the current copies. People who were the lucky ones should guard it with there lives. And feel honored that a mystery person found them special enough to make them part of this project.

There won’t be any more full HF’s ever. It’s been a bit of a nightmare to be honest. I had threats from people, and Capcom definitely do chase up copyrights.

Street Fighter fans are nuts, Capcom too it seems.

I was suprised the game even got a limited release honestly. It was the best option not to make more though as being sued by a huge gaming company like Capcom would be disaster.

I always liked that the vb community is not like that. Everyone shares their bit, whether it is making games, sharing source code snippets to enable others, pointing out auctions, repairing display and broken vb, writing books, making shirts, sharing scans, doing translations or just participating in the general discussions.

That’s actually the reason why I’m still around. People are just nice here. No one cares if the same “my displays are broken” thread is created over and over again and no one gets tired responding.

One thing I know for sure though. This place would exist today without Minestorm. The Flashboy and all the reproduction carts made this place worthwhile. So thanks for that.

As Thunder said, Minestorm, I think we’re all very thankful that you’re here and while we’re on the topic I’d also like to express long-term thanks and gratitude. Because of you, I can play my favourite game in the world in glorious red and black 3D!

By the way, Retro Gamer mag has a Street Fighter cover article this month – I was really hoping that Hyper Fighting VB would be in it!

I second that. Thank you Minestorm! Your repro work has helped breathe life into our favorite Nintendo console. (eventually I’ll buy a Flashboy…)

If anything, the VB repro carts have not only helped get protos ahd homebrews (especially homebrews!!!) into the hands of players, but they’ve also raised awareness for the Virtual Boy as a whole. I think it’s safe to say that the VB has been enjoying the most positive popularity in history during the last several years. Although prices have increased, the nice thing is more people realize the VB has value, meaning fewer broken units will end up in the landfills.
