It’s a freaking Christmas miracle. On Dec. 26th I booted up my notebook and found a file called “Fishbone.[Merry.Christmas].vb” on my Desktop. So I went and checked the security tapes. You guys won’t believe it: A group of 6 Christmas-Elves showed up in my apartment and finished the game. I was pretty surprised at first but then deleted the file as I thought: “I don’t need help of a freaking Christmas-Elf”.

The next morning there was a new file called “Fishbone.[Not.cool.Bro].vb”. I checked the tapes again an the very same thing had happened. However, this time one of the Elves stared directly into the camera for half an hour after they were done. I thought to myself: “I’m afraid of no freaking Christmas-Elf” so I deleted the file again.

The next morning I found a file called “Fishbone.[Next.time.we.break.your.legs].vb”. Obviously I checked the tapes again. After the elves were finished one went over to my couch and took a monster dump directly onto it.

So, I decided to not delete the game this time and release it instead. As the elves reprogrammed the game from the scratch in Python I can’t make any changes to the game anymore, so please don’t ask for it.

Some cheats of the game:
– You can delete all highscores by pressing the left and right trigger during the Adjustment-Screen
– You can trigger the Credits-Screen early if you press left and right trigger during the Start-Screen
– You can deactivate the collision detection if you press up on both D-Pads during the Start-Screen

About the card release:
I can’t tell if the quality is high enough for a card release. However, I think it is as good as the Blox and Soviet Union games which are high quality games in my opinion. However, a card release will only happen if there is an interest. So if you want the game on a card just post it in this thread, this is not a pre-order though. Everything else will be figured out later.

OK, as I said: I can’t change the game anymore because of the Elves. Ask the Elves if you want changes. I will remove the Elf-Shit from my couch and play with my WiiU.

Happy New Year Everyone

Very nice labels. Does this mean that reproduction carts can be made on a per-order basis?

Well… öhm… no!

Wait… so cart labels were made for the game, but reproduction carts are not allowed to be made on a per-order basis?… Or will this cart label be used in a planned limited production run in the future?

You can of course ask Richard to make you a copy. Everyone can. The game is for free. Same thing goes for GameHero.

Many thanks for that. I just wanted to make sure that any person who knows how to make repro carts has the permission to do so if requested.

Sure, you can even sell it way over price on ebay, burn it, give it to homeless children or make a Box and put your face on it. I don’t care, it is for free.

If everyone involved were OK with it, I would suggest that a few full reproduction sets (box, manual, cart) are put on eBay and the funds from those auctions is put towards the FaceBall project. I might be a really nice way to give back to the community while also providing a nice Homebrew cart for a lucky VB fan.

Of course, the auction description would need to make note of the situation. Namely that it is a Homebrew, not a long lost game, and that all proceeds are going to fund further VB reproduction development.

Yes, I would like to buy a reproduction cart if there was one.

The v4 file a few posts back is already padded for the FB+?

I finally got to play this for a few minutes on the Red Dragon emulator.

Unfortunately, that meant no music, and no #D, but I still got to play the game.

Fishbone is a very nice homebrew. Virtual Ben did an awesome job with the graphics. Thunderstruck, you did very good coding, and there is a lot of variety. I like how the stage select screen is inspired by Faceball.

I didn’t expect this game to be auto-scrolling, or using only the d-pad, but it’s a nice and simple little game. Good job you guys. 🙂

yes, it is already padded. Is there a problem with the ROM?

I actually never tired Red Dragon. It works in Reality Boy but the sound is broken there as well due to a Bug in RealityBoy (it interprets certain sound registers backwards). However, the game runs perfectly fine in Mednafen. It is a little bit slower on Hardware then in the emulator though.

Not at all, it was simply a question of curiosity. -=)

Quick question for Virtual Ben and thunderstruck –

Great work on the box art and label/logo! Just a couple thoughts – would it be possible to incorporate the logo into the box art rather than just having plain text? Also, the bullet points at the bottom – if this is meant for an actual boxed release, would it be better to put these on the back of the box? Having them on the front makes it a little noisy, aesthetically.

Just a couple thoughts. Keep up the awesome work!

I’m guessing that Virtual_Ben received inspiration for his box design from the box of V-Tetris. It also has that kind of information in its black margin at the bottom of its box:

thats right.
i didn’t know what stnds under the line of the box from v tetris so i just put some arguments under the picn so i didn’t look that emty.
i could delete it but what should i put under that line then ?

I actually like your older “US-style” box better. Plus the cart label is US-style, so isn’t it weird to not have them match?

I made a short video. You can find it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=dYBRHnbYqQ4

That video gives a nice sample of each level. I really like the death screen, where the fish explodes into a boney mess. I think it’s hilarious. I’ve certainly already seen it dozens and dozens of times in my attempts for perfect scores in each stage. Still haven’t gotten a single one yet, though.

I would commit to a cart. Well, not if it was $1000, but in the $75 range I could swing that…

😀

I have been playing New Super Mario Bros. U lately and one level is giving me a strange Déjà-vu every time. This is what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL4SkgXWmn8 (skip to 0:50)
