Original Post

Hi there. My name is Tyler, and I’ve been a video game collector for pretty much my entire life. Together with my Dad (who sadly passed away in 2007), I’ve assembled quite an amazing collection. Virtual Boy was never a favorite of mine, but it was a wonderful curiosity, and I still have many fond memories playing with it in ’95 – ’96.

One of the games we bought back in the day was Jack Bros. It isn’t until now that I’ve learned that this game is the rarest in the Virtual Boy US collection. What a surprise!

I’m living on my own now, and I’m sure most of you know it can be tough at times. This is why I’ve decided to sell Jack Bros. I sold another rare game from my collection (Dynastic Hero TG DUO) recently, and I’m hoping to offer this game to someone from the Virtual Boy fan community who would enjoy it.

I’ve seen ebay listings of this title go for $160 loose. My copy is in MINT condition, as if it was just opened. Looks like I bought it yesterday, with no damage to the box, cartridge, or manual. I’d like to say it’s brand new, just not sealed. (I must have played the game twice in all these many years.) If you need to see pictures, I’ll try to supply those soon.

So what is this title in this condition worth? Someone of the Digital Press message boards (of which I’ve been apart of for almost 10 years) told me I could get $300 plus.

I’d like to hear your thoughts. Please let me know how I should go about this. I don’t want to rip anyone off, and I don’t want to get ripped off myself. I’m coming to you first before I head to ebay. Thank you.

I’m kind of new to VB collecting, but recently a US Jack Bros. was sold on eBay. I couldn’t see how it ended, but some hours before it ended it was at around $130.
It was mint and complete with box and manual.
It may have ended at over $300, but sadly I can’t say for sure.

By the way, I am actually looking for a copy of Jack Bros. (preferably the japanese, as it’s cheaper and has better art work on the cover and manuals :P), anyone has an extra copy and willing to sell it?

Wow, and that was with a crushed box and water damage. Mine, as I stated, is brand new, just out of the shrink wrap.

Thanks. This gives me a good idea.

Hi ShinobiMan,

I think that if you put the starting bid for Jack Bros. at $180.00, you will get at least a few bidders, and the bidding will go up from there.

I am a huge Virtual Boy fan, and I was willing to pay $300 for the game that came with its box and manual. Thankfully, I didn’t have to pay quite that much when I won the auction. I plan to keep the game, in order to play it and enjoy it, and I have no plans to resell it or to try to buy another copy of it for any purposes. Nevertheless, I’m sure that there are others out there who put as much worth on the game as I do.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! This has helped. I decided to list the game on ebay at your starting price. Here is the link.

Done and thank you. I’ve never shipped anything overseas before so I was a little skeptical. Will it calculate the shipping cost?

just ad in your action that the oversea buyer needs to contact you for shipping cost
So you can check what it will cost for him

Its not a haevy item so it will not cost allot to ship world wide

Most Worldwide bidders are aware of the higher shipping costs, but still mention it in the auction text.

Also it’s unfair to only led locals bid.

Good luck with your auction. As I’m not in the marked for Jack Bros. anymore.

Very nice, ShinobiMan!

The reason why I told you to put the starting bid at $180.00 is because you really shouldn’t accept any less money for it, especially given the amazing condition that it is in. I would run another auction for it with the same starting bid if it doesn’t sell in the current auction.

The great thing about Jack Bros. is that not only does it have high sentimental value for being such a rare game, but it is also a very GOOD game in itself and very fun to play. I haven’t read too many good things about the extremely rare Japanese games: Virtual Lab and SD Gundam Dimension War. Chances are, those who own these games have seen a lot of shelf time and hardly any play time because the games just aren’t that good to merit playing them again and again. Jack Bros., however, is actually one of the highest rated games for the Virtual Boy, and I myself can attest that it is well made and very fun to play.

I definitely expect that you will get a couple competitive max bids around the very last second on this one. I’d be very surprised if you didn’t.

Thank you about worldwide shipping!! I’m very interested in your game … but probably a lot of people too 🙁

Thanks for all of your help guys. Happy bidding!

I’m rather surprised at how many copies of Jack Bros. (US Version) have appeared on Ebay recently. Nevertheless, ShinobiMan’s copy really stands out above all the rest because of its amazing condition/completeness. I think the sellers who are trying to sell the cartridge alone for $175 or more are trying to rip people off. Hopefully, they won’t succeed, and people will respond properly by refusing to pay that kind of money for just the cart. The seller who just recently put up a cartridge alone at a starting bid of $60, however, is being very fair and reasonable. Those who aren’t collectors and who just want a nice copy of the game should definitely keep an eye on that one!

Only an hour left! Looks like there’s a lot of interest. Don’t forget to bid! 🙂

Congrats, ShinobiMan!

That’s the most I’ve ever seen or heard Jack Bros US Version go for!
