Chalvo 55 English (PAL) Repro/Translation

I didn’t see this posted anywhere, has anyone else picked up a copy? Mine came a couple weeks ago but I haven’t had a chance to tear it open yet (it came shrinkwrapped)…I can post pics of the unboxing if anybody wants to see it. The guy selling it seems pretty cool, and this fits in my collection way better than the original Japanese version in its deck of cards-sized box.

I have original Chalvo 55; I bought it right after I received Bound High! on Virtual Boy. It was a good purchase.

– One small tidbit worth mentioning that I didn’t see called out so far – the game is totally playable, in fact i think it’s already mostly in English bar the title screen. I assume this boxed repro is using this translation:

Yeah, I really don’t remember there being a language barrier in this game. I’d say go for whatever you can get for cheaper, I really don’t mind the oddball Japanese box size. I kind of like how it’s different actually.

I also prefer it – but I collect Japanese versions over the American versions, I find them much more interesting and original to be honest.

I am fine with my Japanese copy of Chalvo 55, because it’s the original and yes it’s in English. 🙂

Just to bicker a little about the ebay listing…

I don’t know much about the English reproduction version of Chalvo 55, but if I am going to buy an English reproduction version of a game, where the game itself is already mostly in English, then there had better be a very fancy box and instruction manual to go along with the game, whose English contents make the purchase worthwhile. With this listing, there is no telling what is on the back of the box, and the instruction “manual” looks simply like a sheet, and the description even says it’s a sheet, so is there even a guarantee that there are English instructions on the back?

This listing could have been created much better is all I’m saying…

I’m not sure if the seller actually makes these games or he just sells for whoever does make them. If you search Google for “100RetroShock facebook” (no spaces in 100RetroShock), that should help you find their page. They seem to do other translations as well.

I will definitely post pics when I open mine finally…the manual appears to be an actual booklet as far as I can see. The back of the box has the Nintendo seal, pictures, description, etc. that you would expect. Overall the box’s print quality isn’t as high as an original would be, but it’s still pretty convincing.

The game probably is mostly in English anyway, I just thought it was a fun thing to add to my collection 🙂

I feel I should point out here, for those who don’t know the GB, that all Game Boys ever made were region free. The mentioning of PAL in the listing and in this thread’s title is redundant and possibly misleading.

IOW, this game can be played on any Game Boy from anywhere in the world.

When you get around to making pics of the contents on the box and manual, etc., can you be sure to include scans of each page of the instruction booklet? I’m curious to see how much of what they made is a direct translation of the original Japanese contents and how much is simply their own take based on their knowledge of the game.
