I’ve tried real hard to get over my battery fear for years, but I just can’t do it…

my poor Gameboy, Wonderswan and Wii Remote had their batteries changed back in April 2009 and I’ve left them in there since… I’m afraid they might have leaked by now, but I just can’t check! not only am I afraid of putting batteries in or taking them out regardless of battery corrosion not being there, but when battery corrosion could possibly be there, I end up just wanting to get rid of the item right away with out checking (my GBA went through that fate)

anything I could do to get over this fear or will I end up getting rid of Gameboy, Wonderswan and Wii Remote?

My Battery fear is a sad, haunting thing that started around when I was 8 but a little bit back when I was 5 due to sticking my hand into a holiday bag and finding a plush bunny that had red colored battery acid all dripping from it which made me fear red colored things, then I started not to fear Red things after a few years but rather detest them… then in 2009 due to my Yokoi fan-ness and that I had a dream I found a VB and then starting to focus on it and slowly accepting Red being cool after all, I got a Virtual Boy πŸ˜›

how do I get myself less nervous about this? (its “GBA of 2004” all over again) and do I keep it? there IS battery acid around that Gameboy after all 😯

Last night i went to play a dvd, not done for ages, the remote didn’t work and as i turned it over i saw the white dusty evidence of leaked batteries, now i had been holding this pressing buttons and felt nothing, aside from that my wife had been trying first and she felt nothing on her hands and she can get bad eczema from some detergents etc.
There really is nothing to worry about, wear some kind of gloves, open it up and knock out the batteries, with a bit of a brush out it will most likely still work.

But my Gameboy has splattered battery acid around its case so its not the dusty-not-as-bad kind… (and even the dusty stuff is scary too, it brings me back to when I was playing with my toy phone when I was about 4 or 5 or so and it was not working so I opened its battery compartment (I was brave when I was little) and out came very sharp crusty pieces of battery acid… I even accidentally sat on a few of said pieces that were scattered on the floor 😯 ) (just one of my many terrible encounters with batteries)

OMG, get out, get out now, its gonna melt through the earths crust and we’ll all have to escape the coming implosion as the planet folds back in on itself, and we never did play Dragon Hopper…….all cos you didn’t take out your Gameboy batteries when left for a prolonged period, as the manual states…..

I also have old batteries in my WonderSwan and Wii Remote that are as old as the Gameboy’s batteries…

There is less time than i thought, grab your pets and head to the nearest transworld portal πŸ˜€

Electronics don’t fair well through portals, thats why i’ve never managed to bring back photographic/video evidence when i pass through the orange curtain. πŸ˜€

gunpeiyokoifan, have you ever touched the two terminals of a 9V battery to your tongue?

no, but I’ve heard that people have before (just the thought of doing that is quite nerve wrecking to me… even if its a shock and not battery acid related)
