Original Post

Announcing the beginning of work on GoSub 2. Improvements over the original are:
+I am going to add an octopus chasing you. To fire a torpedo in the direction you’re going, press A.
+I also plan to put in more than 32 levels this time. These levels include an in and out, and no treasure. Your search is for the big huge treasure chest I plan to put in at the end.
Right now, all I have is a title screen. There are two different animations, please watch both of them, and I remind you these are placeholder graphics, and may not be used in the final version (especially the torpedo sprite!)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s about 3,125 different combinations of those letters.

You’re wrong πŸ˜‰

If you include things like “OOOOO” and “GBGBG” there are 3125, but if you only use each letter once, there are:

5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1 = 120 permutations

Also, I hereby submit “BOUGS” for your consideration πŸ˜€

That’s what I meant. Like DaVince said, it would be kind of easy to pick out passwords at random that way if there are 63 levels and 124 different combinations.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe I’ll just stick with my original 32 levels. 63 sounds like too much for right now, and if I wanted to get this done by Halloween (so it can go in the competition), I’d have to average a maze a day, which I don’t really think I can do. So a possible 32 out of 125 means about a 25% chance of someone getting a correct password, right? I hope that’s a low enough number.

32 levels is fine, I think. I also think you should use letters multiple times (like BOGOB), makes them more difficult to guess. πŸ™‚

Well, since you’ve broadcast the code selection criteria (or is it just the one criterion?) to your game’s entire audience, there’s probably a 100% chance that they’ll be easily guessed… given enough time and desire on the user’s part.

Also, there are 120 combinations. Not 124, not 125, 120. Period.

I think you should not write the other passwords for level 7+ here but instead do so every level you win in the game you get 1 password

After a one month break, I’m back working on this again. And I’m going to post it to the VB 2010 Homebrew Contest on Halloween night no matter how many levels it has. Right now there’s 10, but I’m no longer going to attach ROMS.
