Crazy! I was in America around this time 20 years ago and remember seeing it shops over there.

I remember hassling my dad to get me one but it never happened.

Nintendo gave up on this system far too easily IMO. I mean giving up before even 1 year is out is not the way to do it. They should have given the system a solid year to try and make its mark on Gamers.

I personally think a Mario game on the system would have made more people at least try the system. The demo alone looked awesome!

Wow 20 today! I remember begging for one also, but in all honesty AVGN is right about one thing… The VB should have had a Headstrap in the box as well as the stand.

The misunderstood advertising and lack of Headstrap really caused damage to the sales. Nintendo could have waited to hammer out the issues but they didn’t. :/

Happy 20th VB! I remember learning about the console from either the AVGN or when reading one of my sister’s old Nintendo Power magazines when I was little. Although a little bit of a pain, it’s still a fun console to play and it stinks that it was canned so quickly since some of the cancelled games like Dragon Hopper and Mario Land VB looked fun.

I need to get some more games for my Virtual Boy since I still only have the initial 7 games I got with it two years ago.

Nice to see kotaku giving the Virtual boy some attention today!

Too bad the only attention given is basically, “It’s true that the Virtual Boy sucked, but at least it didn’t cause Nintendo to stop trying new things.”

Oh well…

Happy Birthday Virtual Boy!

Are you guys going by the Japanese release? I thought the Virtual Boy launched in August.

Happy B-Day Virtual Boy, still one of my favorite Nintendo consoles, even if it needs more games.

This celebration today is the Japanese release. US wasn’t until Aug 14th if I’m not mistaken.

Kit23 and I celebrated with cupcakes at our favorite store Happy B day VB!>8

Happy Birthday Virtual Boy!

I don’t think it’s possible for people to say anything about things like the Virtual Boy, Star Wars prequels or Duke Nukem Forever without taking jabs at it at the same time :/

I celebrated its birthday by repairing displays of two members here, one of them responded in this thread as well 😉
And I reunited the Virtual Boy with his big brother R.O.B. such a cool machine to look at (though pretty much useless to use as a gaming accessory haha).

I simply love this console, it is my favorite, so cool, works so well in 3D and has a few VERY good games. Though it could have done with just two more good games for it (Zelda and Mario)!

That’s a big display cabinet, I wish I had something like that. Mine is just big enough to show off my VB collection but I would also like to display my handheld collection, as it would be cool to see.

Oh crap I missed it! Gonna have to wish my Japanese VB’s a happy belated birthday by having a good play sesh tonight.

Happy birthday Virtrual Boy, I know I’m late but still had to say it. I remember this day, the shop with all the publicities, the posters on the shop’s window, all the articles in the magazines, people talking about it with somes stupids rumors but nobody knew what to expect. In my mind what just like, “oh my Miyamoto, what would be amazing, I mean virtal reality by Nintendo, that can only be awesome!”. But Jesus wasn’t in my side, I was just beside him in the sky, yeah I know that suck to not be born at this time, and he tolds me than he doesn’t trust in this console, and it happened that it happened. I lose my bet so he sents me on earth and I born a little after….stupid bet!

It was 20 years ago…thank you Nintendo to still try new concept for best or worst!

I have an extra VB hanging out with a bunch of other stuff in a display cabinet in my room.

Did you know that the R.O.B. has two eyes behind his cyclops visor eye? I didn’t and thought I had a later revision, but you can easily remove the visor (which was intended to help with some situations to help R.O.B work better) which is taped on with double sided tape.

I stuck the visor on a piece of sticker sheet and stored it in the battery compartment. The R.O.B. looks way cooler with his eyes showing than the cyclops style, but tastes can differ 😉

Today’s the actual birthday! 20 years old! How time flies. Happy Birthday, VB!

Happy North American VB Anniversary!

Happy North American birthday Virtual Boy!!! <3

Happy 20th Birthday Virtual Boy! I guess I know what I’m doing today =D
