Just something that is floating around my mind for quite some time now. I started programming games for all kinds of platforms (NDS, Android, BrowserGames, …). I usually stop after the point at which I solved all of the initial mysteries. At that point I am usually sure that I could finish the game. The rest of it is just work, so I never finish.

Actually, GameHero is the only “Game” I ever finished. However, it took me nearly every free evening for one month. I only finished the game because I enjoyed reading this site for quite a long time an thought I should give something back.

However, it often came to my mind that it would be really cool to have a cartridge of my game. Actually, I would have polished the game even more, because the content on the cartridge can not be changed. I know that I can ask Richard to sell me one, however this is expensive.

So my idea would to give everyone who publishes a game a real world copy of his game. There should be of course some rules. For example that all sources have to published, that the game/content has to be new and so on.

I can’t tell how high the cost for producing a cartridge are but I think if everyone is willing to pay a little the whole thing could be financed by donations. And in the end we would have allot of new polished games.

Ohhh, and I know about the coding competitions, but I think “maybe winning something” isn’t such an good incentive.

Good idea!

I think you just need to ask Sir Richard and give hime Three Donor carts, it’s what he ask for BH card.

So i guess it should be the same for you.
You also can design your box and sticker logo and ask Her Chriss who will make it for 16euro i think, as he does for Flash Boy card.

I downloaded your game but i’m waiting my Flash + to try it!

I can’t wait!!!

Anyway thank you for your work cause it makes the VB alive!!!

I would gladly support the coders any way I can. Instead of a donation, I’d rather pay to have a physical copy of the game. If it has a box or not is just a bonus.

If Richard is up for it (?) we could do 50 dollars to the coder and (insert # here) games to Richard to flash them ?.

If we could get boxes for them..that would be even better, but it seems to have hit a snag with bound high ? (guess, just seems to have taken awhile ?)

There should be a website that specializes in VB homebrew/reproduction carts. Retrousb.com uses new parts on their NES games. I know NES and VB are completely different consoles, what I’m trying to get at is maybe someone could find a place where they could get VB PCB borads and connectors made.

before a game goes on a cart it really needs to be polished. no one wants to pay $50 for a game and then a few runs later a bug fix or two are released on a new version of the cart.

the bound high and space pinball repos are basically stripped down flashboy+ boards. so i don’t think the PCB would be an issue. however, the donors are because there is no source of aftermarket connectors or cases. the connector issue is something that has been discussed but i don’t recall ever reading a solution.

i agree that we would need new parts because we can’t keep destroying mario tennis carts. =/

Vaughanabe13 did find connector strip off the shelf a while back

So it would just be a case of needing cases.
I recently got a quote from one of these 3D printing companies and a cart case in total is not cheap, like $40-50 for a front and back, now that could be in colours or even transparent (cost a bit more), and also could have engraved type info on but I think its a bit steep just for cart case, but if anyone wanted I would happily send them my 3D model to get some done with. I can edit it to have what ever they wanted on the front too, can be a total bespoke case if wanted.

I feel like this discussion is heading in the wrong direction.

What I tried to say is: If you give every developer a not reflashable cartridge of his game if he publishes it in this forum, we are going to have more polished VB games.

I don’t really think making money by selling homebrew games is good incentive, because it makes the programming work and not fun.

Cheers,
thunder
