Howdy-

I’m trying to gauge how much interest there is in making reproduction color wheels for the Vectrex 3D Imager. I believe I’ve got it figured out & am going to start the process of design & manufacture to see where it takes me.

Two questions:

1 – How many color wheels would you buy? Note that there exist 2 different color wheels: 1 for 3D Minestorm, & 1 for Narrow Escape/3D Crazy Coaster.

2 – How much would you pay? I recall seeing only 1 eBay auction for a loose color wheel, & it hit $100 or so. I could certainly sell repros for less than that, but what would you be comfortable paying?

Thanks,
-Jason

i do not own a vectrex, and i wish i did, so i’m not really up on what has been reproduced. i was always hoping to see a full set of overlays as it seems those would be in much higher demand than the color wheels.

what is your plan to get the word out to the select few that have a working 3d imager? as for the price, i would try to keep them affordable for those in the community. however, considering the cost of the 3D imager and its games, dropping $100 on both color wheels might not be that far fetched.

I read up on reproducing one’s own overlays a while ago and it didn’t seem too impossibly complicated for a dedicated individual. Heavy transparency paper and some high quality scans would go a loooong way. Possibly better than that site’s $6.99/ea, but I’m also lazy, so maybe not, haha.

I don’t have a 3D Imager for mine, but I highly desire one. I’m pragmatic when it comes to something like this: if I were selling, I’d charge maybe $10 + shipping + cost of materials if they don’t take too long to make. That way you get them out there nice and cheap and people get color wheels. Since it’s a repro, $100 would definitely be too steep, but maybe something more akin to $30? I don’t know what your costs are, so it’s hard to say. If there are only two, maybe do a bundle that’s cheaper than the cost of buying two as a bargain?

It definitely seems like a limited business audience, but I’m sure there’s a few bucks to be made there. 🙂
