So I finally found a Flashboy through a guy on AtariAge. I was soooo excited to play all the homebrew on it…

Unfortunately though, it never got here. I asked for insurance, but he didn’t purchase it. All I have is tracking and confirm saying the last place it hit was 45 minutes away, at the Columbus distribution plant.

Now I have to find another, and on top of that, I’m out 140+ dollars.

Life is grand. 😐

That’s terrible. Something like that happened to me, only less expensive. A brand new copy of Virtual League Baseball I bought back in early Feburary from half.com hasn’t come yet, and the seller won’t reply to any of my questions, and Paypal hasn’t given me a refund. So what do we learn from this? Don’t buy from a seller called *bigstate*. Ever.

Yeah, I have a space invaders that has track and confirm saying it was delivered to my house and it isn’t. It says “delivered on 5/16/09” but I never got it. Does this happen often? I’m probably out a lot of money. sucks!

Maybe you should ask your neighbours and the post office, so that they show you the signature of the person who supposedly got it. I have had some lost packages, not many though (2 out of more than 150 deals throughout the world), but whenever I get a “delivered” package and it’s not in my house, it’s in my neighbour’s house.

As for the “bad experience”, my bad experience was with a British guy called Michael Starkey and an SD Gundam + Virtual Bowling deal 😐 . If you want details (plus how he tried to scam again through eBay using a different nickname one year later), search through all the vr32 forums and you’ll learn them (I think it was more than two years ago…). As you see, it can be much worse (and I’m sure many people have been scammed much more than I was). I learnt from it that it’s the risk you take when you want extremely rare items. Therefore, you have to weigh all the factors involved in a transaction very carefully before taking a decision, or you could find yourself having to pay much more than what you expected at first.

Something curious act that the Virtual Boy second hand market has been one of the most risky (riskiests?) I’ve ever met when trying to grab extremely rare items. Maybe it’s just because I only collect Virtual Boy, and it happens the same with Neo Geo or other systems… Anyway, just do your best to make sure you’re dealing with the right people before paying anything πŸ˜‰

Sorry to hear about other people’s bad luck. It just sucks, and I now will probably never have the opportunity to get a Flashboy ever again, killing my chances of playing the communities homebrew.

That’s the part that hurts me the most. Losing the money sucks, but I’d buy it again if I knew I’d actually get one this time πŸ˜•

But a new batch of Flash Boys are coming out…

DaytonaUSA, if I were you I would wait for KR155E to make a new batch. I am sure that since there have been a few requests he will make it πŸ™‚

Oh good to hear about a new batch. Anyone have a link to be added to a list, or has one not been made yet?

Thanks guys.

Yep, I needed to make a list, due to the many requests I got. You’re on it now and I’ll let you know when I have a FlashBoy for you. πŸ™‚

Well you can take me off the list! Guess what I got last night!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

It’s a month late, but I still love it :P. I haven’t loaded anything to it yet. To be honest, I don’t know how I’m going to. I was going to use windows that’s on my mac to boot this, but it came with a mini cd, and I don’t believe macs take that. I’m sure I’ll figure it out.. I’m just happy it’s here :D.

Hey DaytonaUSA, nice to hear you got the game. It is clear you dealt with the right people, a bit lazy with shipping, but right nonetheless. It remembers me of when I got Final Fantasy 3 US version for my SNES. The game took three months to arrive, and since I did it through UGTZ and the seller never got back to me, I thought the game would never arrive.

As for how to load games to your flashboy, I think the apps to load and pad the roms is in vr32 for download, but it works only in windows afaik. It is worth trying. Enjoy your “new toy” πŸ™‚

vbfreak’s right. you can find all the apps and the manual for download here (follow the links in the bottom right):
http://www.vr32.de/modules/hardware/index.php?type=flashcarts&v=fb

looks like you have an older unit, so make sure to use loader version 20071209.

Why is that?

the first half of units had home printed stickers over vl baseball boxes, while the last half had boxes printed directly on cardboard by a copy shop. those new ones had much better colors but the corners did not looks perfect, because they broke a bit from the folding. this box looks like an older one to me, but i could also be mistaken.

different chips were used for older and newer carts, because the old chips ones were no longer available at one point. there’s different revisions of the flashboy, and there’s different loader versions which only work with one version of the flashboy.

With my batch 1 FlashBoy, the latest version of the loader (20081026) gives a write error at 100% when flashing 2 MB ROMs. I’m using the previous loader version which seems to work okay.
