I was wondering if I should do more soundtracks for this site. For example Vertical force and whatever other game may need touch ups.

If you hear Panic bomber. It is much better then what was there previously. I know who made that did hard work just to get it there and appreciate the effort.

Vertical force is another one of my favorite games for the Virtual Boy. Its soundtrack on here I believe almost blew out my speakers with distortion.

Anyway I may make its soundtrack for my benefit. Shall I hand this site the music for yours?

and there are other games as well. I know red alarm and wario land have great sound tracks already πŸ™‚ along with galactic pinball and mario’s tennis. Some of which I listen to quite a bit. πŸ˜€

But now I am rambling and shall let a decision be made. πŸ˜€

anything that makes the site better is better for the site. it becomes better for its members and guests. if you have the means and time to remake all of the music collections, then you should do so. i same could be said for screen shots, information, multimedia, etc.

As an audiophile and all-around snob too, I wouldn’t mind having some high fidelity recordings of all VB soundtracks. Jack Bros is one of my favorites to listen to, and surprisingly I think some of the tunes on Virtual Bowling and Virtual Lab were good. My iPod already has the Killer Instinct and Mario 64 soundtracks, wouldn’t mind a collection of two dozen albums by the artist ‘Virtual Boy’ either πŸ™‚

I think the key concept here is “fidelity”. Not to knock you or the emulator authors, but maybe the work shouldn’t be put into such a project until it can be done with actual hardware (or at a point when the emulation is 99%+ accurate) and using at least “prosumer” level recording hardware/software. Just my $0.02.

Here’s a small collection for those interested. I recorded this music for my vidoes, and I also use a couple for ring tones and such as well. I figured since we’re on the subject I may as well share. It includes:

Bound High intro song
Faceball Intro song
4 of my favorite Jack Bros songs
4 of my favorite Panic Bomber songs
Galactic Pinball high score song
T&E Golf course select song

All recorded off my Virtual Boy. Any requests, let me know.

I had to remove one of the Panic Bomber songs to get it within the attachable size limit. Here’s a link to the same song I uploaded here (although without the fade out..)

You are correct. I however do have time to waste. I may not have the correct sound equiptment. But at least its better then distortion that almost breaks speakers.

When someone does get the time and equiptment to record the music. I will happily step down from “trying”. Thanks for your $0.02.

I also apologize if my grammer/english isn’t perfect.

I need to educate myself. While i have the extra time.

Also I would like to throw in that the songs are 8 bit. What kind of quality are you looking for?

Actually, most VB music is made of 6-bit samples, mixed at 13-bit precision, then quantized down to 10-bit precision for D/A conversion, but I think you missed my point.

First, I didn’t say “quality”, I said “fidelity”. You cannot change the quality of the music a VB produces, other than to reduce it by throwing information away (e.g. through the use of lossy compression) or by adding something that shouldn’t be there (e.g. the “tink” noises).

Fidelity is how truthfully something is reproduced. Somewhere there exists a combination of hardware which would allow for the perfect, bit-for-bit recording and reproduction of the sounds produced by a VB. I’m not saying one needs to go to such extremes, but there must be some middle-ground.

Again, I am not trying to insult or discourage you or the author(s) behind the emulator you used. However, the difference between your recordings and the sounds produced by VB hardware was noticeable to at least one person, so there is obviously room for improvement in the process.

I was not insulted one bit. I actually enjoy the knowledge you have with this stuff. And your most certainly right. Room for improvement indeed. Which of course I do not have the money for. :/ but at least i get the beat out there and hopefully someone will actually improve to the best over my good but not great recordings of the awesome music the artists worked hard on making.

I at least can make my descent recordings for myself. πŸ™‚

And also I will probably share them to improve the site. Until one day someone gets the real work done. πŸ˜€

RunnerPack. I thank you for the knowledge you have provided and I also apologize for not being able to understand some of the vocabulary you use.

I did not study sound. Nor much of anything else. Thus explains my bad english ha ha!

No apology needed; I don’t expect everyone to know as much as I do πŸ˜‰

But seriously, ignorance is not a crime, especially for someone your age. However, it’s practically criminal if you’ve decided to stop learning. With access to the Internet (including yours truly ;-)) – and, apparently, unlimited free-time – there’s really no excuse for that.

You should also stop making excuses for your use of English. Other than a few common misspellings, you actually have very good usage. I can point to a few publications (both online and print) that allow worse gaffes from their “professional” writers to go uncorrected!

Definitely keep making recordings and other stuff to help the site. I only ask that you take a look at your tools and techniques, and make sure you’re using the best ones you can find – and don’t be afraid to ask questions!
