Hey guys,

Just got a Virtual Boy after 15 or so years without one. This one, amazingly, works perfect (we’ll see how long the glue lasts) and is in perfect condition. I can’t quite get the four boxes to be totally clear with the focus slider/ipd slider, though, but I think that’s normal? The images look great so far.

What’s the best way to play the Virtual Boy, though? I tried to just put it on my desk and hunch down into after some adjustments and found my back/shoulders killing me pretty quickly. Do you guys put it on some books and look down into it? Do you look up into it with your head resting on something?

Also, how do you guys clean the system? I suspect using a heavy plastic polisher on it probably isn’t recommended.

I prop mine up on a thick book to raise it to a nicer height. It’s also quite comfortable when you sit in a recliner and prop the stand on your stomach.

Right. Getting all 4 boxes to be crystal clear from one viewpoint is not feasible. You will usually have to move your head a little when looking at something in a corner in order for it to be very clear, if it is not clear already.

I also find the use of a reclining chair to be the best. Put something sturdy on your lap to prop up the system with its stand, until the system rests comfortably on your face that is leaning against the back of the reclining chair. When I’ve done this in the past, I’ve been able to play for 7 or 8 hours straight with no neck strain whatsoever.

I prefer to angle the VB forward so that the displays are facing upwards. Then I just lean forward and rest my hands with controller on the table in front of the VB. This is bar none the most comfortable method. One of these days I need to get a picture for visual reference.

I’m bumping this because I am curious to know the best way to clean the visor.

The instruction manual just says to take it off the Virtual Boy and brush it off by hand. I usually end up doing that, or possibly hitting it with some not so high pressure air.

I did that, just got it wet and dried it out. It smells better now, lol

But I’m having a nightmare trying to find a comfortable way to play now.

i play at a table that is a bit lower than a desk. like the kitchen table. i point the VB down towards the table and sit over it. using it this way has never caused me any pain. i’m not slouching or trying to keep my shoulders in a weird position just to view the screen. i hold the controller out in front of the VB so that i’m not cramping myself trying to tuck it all between my body and the VB.

I feel like this site is missing a guide on how to most comfortably play the Virtual Boy, haha.

Hmmmm…

I lay flat on my bed. It’s not perfect but there’s no neck or back pain.
