This is just a rough draft of something I’m working on. Constructive criticism is welcome.

I know I should know – but when to the day is the VB’s 20th Anniversary?

Depends on which region you go by. The Virtual Boy was released on July 21, 1995 in Japan and on August 14, 1995 in North America

I was going by Japan mainly – so that’s July next year, thanks for the dates my friend 🙂

The text is OK, but some of your data is incorrect.

There isn’t that much RAM. According to Nintendo’s development manual (pages 2-3-2 and 2-3-3), there’s 1 Mb (megabit – that’s 128 KB) of video RAM, 1 Mb (128 KB) of DRAM, and 512 Kb (64 KB) of “pseudo-SRAM”. But if you add up the numbers on page 5-5-2, the VIP only uses 224 KB(?). The WRAM (“work RAM”), in any case, is 64 KB.

There are normally 3 shades of red plus black at a time, but it can get a bit more complicated.

The sound is 10-bit when it hits the speakers, although the mixing process uses various levels of precision (between 4 and 13 bits) in different stages.

Where did you get the sales numbers from? That’s really interesting, I thought the VB was much more successful in North America. (If the VB sold better in Japan, there why is there no Japanese equivalent to PVB? Or is there?)

And we really need a better picture of a full VB setup, one that doesn’t have terrible lighting and has the stand set up correctly. Do we have any photographers on this site?

The information about the specs was l taken from this forum on one of the pages. Good to know it needs fixing. The sales numbers were found on the VB wikia and wiki pages.

I like it. Looks pretty professional already. The only textpart that I thought was strange is:
“Gunpei Yokoi, (created the Game Boy and Game & Watch handhelds) was…”
I think it would sound better if you write:
“Gunpei Yokoi, (creator of the Game Boy and Game & Watch handhelds) was…”

Personally, I think Hyper Fighting is a pretty good Homebrew and is worth being mentioned in the “TOP 5 HOMEBREW GAMES” (Even if that kicks one of my games out of the list). The Soviet Union games are also pretty cool and in my opinion better then the 2 Snake games. Just my personal taste though.

Nice article, well done! The only thing I noticed that wasn’t pointed out is “Only 140,000
were bought by Americans in
the United States and Canada”
Kind of makes it sound like everyone in Canada is also an American. It would look better as “Only 140,000 were bought by North Americans in the United States and Canada”

How about a hobbyist photographer =P
I do have a DSLR anyway, and I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot.

Thank you guys for pointing out what needs fixing 🙂 So glad I posted the rough draft for you guys to pick at. I’m definitely happy to use better pictures if anyone has them. These were more or less place holders of pictures I’d like to use or ones I’d stick with if nothing better turned up. I suck at photography lol

As far as top homebrew games, I haven’t played many so I was only going by ratings here on the site. I’m definitely happy to change them to something better as long as you all agree for the mostpart

Are you any good at Photoshop? I can take a picture and edit it in Lightroom, but for the actually photoshopping (cutting out the background or whatever) I’m not the best at.

There’s so much great homebrew that deserves to be on that list. Hunter, the Yeti3D demo, pretty much any of the last coding competition entries, hyper fighting…

I should be able to clean it up. If you send the picture.

As far as the best homebrew I think I may make a separate thread for that so I can get everyone’s input. This project has plenty of time before it’s “due” lol

Ok I’ll post the picture here once it’s done.

Let me know if this one will work, I tried to keep the background simple for cutting out.

I should be able to work on it tomorrow

You can make a poll when creating that threat. Not sure if you can have a poll where you can vote for multiple entries though. Maybe you even want to split the poll into homebrew demo and homebrew game.

Here’s the psd file and a jpeg

Hey that looks good. I might have to download the .psd and play around with it, try out some backgrounds and logos =P

The magic wand tool is the best invention ever lol. Be sure to post some of the artwork you make 🙂

Do’h! I forgot all about the magic wand tool. Shows you how rusty I am at Photoshop. The only thing I’ve used it for in years is making HDR photographs. I do vaaaguely remember computer class in school in 2003 where we learned traditional Photoshop techniques (Remember Photoshop version 7? =P)

I’ll definitely post what I come up with.
