Hello! I’m brand new to the community and hopefully this isn’t a repost, but I need some help repairing my first VR. I got it from an auction and i get a VR with a screen that doesn’t work :/ no red lines or anything, just sad darkness. I hear it turn off using the batterypack controller, with wario land in. I’ve seen the oven fix method but i have no tools and I’m awfuly horrible at doing this stuff and I really don’t want to beak this beautiful machine. Is there anywhere that I can hire someone to fix this?

Thanks!

This might sound silly, but it’s happened before.

Without a cart in the vboy..it will not show anything on the screen. Sometimes..the dust cap gets stuck inside the cart slot…could you check that ?

Is there sound? If you try what bigmak says and it still doesn’t work, try pressing the A button a few times to get the game going, and see if there’s sound. The oven ‘fix’ won’t do squat if the actual console isn’t turning on.

It kinda worked! I pressed A a bunch and it started playing game music but still no picture.

Well at least the console works then. When you turn on the console can you hear a kind of hum sound? You might have to put your ear right up to it, or maybe just keep your hand on the console, as you should also feel a very slight vibration. If it’s doing that, then the displays mechanical bits are functioning. If that’s the case it could possibly be the connection to the actual LED’s got lost entirely. I suppose this would be visually apparent ie. the ribbon cables could have come off entirely. I guess all you can do is take the unit apart and visually inspect it. If nothing looks wrong to you, maybe try taking some pictures of the display parts and post them here.

Yep I hear that humming sound. But I have no idea how to take it apart.

I just found this guide.

If that looks way over your head, it may be better to pay someone to fix it for you. Unfortunately I don’t know who does this, but I’m sure it can’t be too hard to find someone.

Yep, wayyy over my head. But thank you so much for the help!

No problem. I hope you get it sorted. It’s a great experience to play on the Virtual Boy, it’ll be worth it 🙂

Glad to join the community (:

Oh yeah, welcome by the way!

Don’t give up… getting you’re VB working will be well worth the wait, work, and money… heck while you are wating get yourself a flash boy + so you can play any vb game you want… even gameboy games in red monocrome 3d! Heck yeah

PM sent 🙂

Welcome to the community! Runnerpack here will be able to help you. He has fixed many of my displays. It is not really that difficult to take the VB apart imho, but nonetheless runnerpack will still be able to help. Congrats on joining the vr/vb world and enjoy.

Well, it is a let down your displays do not work right away, but on the other hand, this problem ALWAYS pops up, now you just have to wait a bit longer before you can carelessly enjoy the real Virtual Boy experience!

Where are you from? Looking at the time you posted it, I imagine you are from the States, but you never know 😉

You’re correct! I’m from the Midwest US.

Then I am sure Runnerpack will be able to help you out!

Just wanted to stop in and say “thanks” for all the recommendations. It means a lot, you guys!

(And the same goes in advance for any that get posted later, too ;-))
