After I got my system back from H.P. Loverthrash, I was happy! But now I see something new. wtf could this be?

I see a black line right on the left eye. the one that was working perfectly.
I see it in all games.
Here are the pictures i *tried* to take of it
I added the one that is most visible.

Weird black line on the Virtual Boy

I’ve not experienced this myself but I believe this could be dust or a hair on the mirror or lens on the inside of your unit. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe it’s worth pulling apart your VB to check. Hope this helps a little.

I agree with VBmills.
When I repaired my VB I had the same thing happen. Turned out to be just a piece of dust on one of the revolving mirrors. Used a little compressed air to blow it off and it was back to normal 🙂

Given that it doesn’t seem to be parallel to the path of the mirror, that kind of rules out bad displays or dust/lint on the lenses or mirrors.

I’m going to go with a crack or scratch in the red window. Does it move relative to the image when you move your head? You should be able to light the window using a flashlight (with the VB off) and see if it’s there. Try shining the light across the window, from the sides.

I didn’t notice anything like that when testing, odd. Did the shipping box look abused or something?

I wonder if a piece of lint or dust on the lens between LED and mirror might cause a crooked line like that.

Either way, I have an extra set of the red lenses somewhere if it turns out to be a crack. Keep us updated…

Why didn’t you contact HP Lovethrash directly before posting here? Would have been a bit more courteous.

It does look like a crack indeed though, strange, but it could still be some piece of dirt.

That looks a little different then the problem I experienced back in July, but it would be worth your while to clean the lens part of the display. I will quote theforce81 from my previous thread. It worked like a charm for me.

Your problem is easily solved. I have seen countless of these problems when soldering displays for members here. The problem is a tiny speck of dirt on the lens part of the display which you cannot see with the naked eye.
The best way to get rid of it, is to rub with a lint free cloth with a good amount of pressure, this solved it 99% of the times I have seen it on displays. In the 1% of the cases, it is a scratch and I haven’t found a way to fix that yet.

It’s 2018 and My problem was solved like late 2016, because one of my friends promised he will fix it. I mean, he opened up the virtual boy and cleaned it and it really was hair/dust. I wanna say that my virtual boy still going strong in 2018, HP Lovertrash did an excellent job
