Hi! I’m new at the virtual boy (just a few months) but i’m really interested on trying to make some game but i’m gonna try first to port some game for take a little experience.

The question is: Do you think it’s possible to port Pokemon Crystal edition (but with some edition to make possible to achieve every pokemon in just one cartridge) to the Virtual boy?

Do you think is possible to port some Super Nintendo games?

Most likely not. I asked before if it was possible to emulate/play NES/GB games on it, just to play them in Red ‘n’ Black really, and one of the foremost programmers here said no. So don’t bet on it.

Having said that, you could ’emulate’ the experience by getting a SuperGameboy and creating your own palette, or creating your own palette for the PC GB/GBC emulators relatively easily.

Well I am no game maker but the vb was 32 bit after all and pokemon is not even 8 bit so it must work even if it would be very hard considering you have to code the whole game so it shows in both eye pieces

Try atari 2600 games, should be way easier

It sucks that you can’t port other console games onto the VB.

I have a super game boy, but i don’t see the utility for it. For the atari, which one would you like to see on 3D? Just remember i’m gonna try this to take experiencie with development for the vb…

Take a look here, it’s possible on the Super Gameboy and Super Gameboy 2:

“players can assign their own colors by accessing either the Color Palette Window or the Custom Color Window. The Color Palette Window allows the player choose one of 32 different system color palettes, while the Custom Color Window let’s the player adjust the color palette available. A password system at the top of the Custom Color Window saves the changes to the color palette.”

I need to get this setup soon, I could have hours of fun with that alone.

I’d have to say my fav original game for 2600 has to be warlords. but you really need the VB link cable for that. What about pitfall 2 could you do that one. or river raid or barnstormer Id like to see updated versions of all 3 of those. You know like a Super Mario Bros. All Stars. Just my 2 cents.

How about Virtual-On in wireframe mode?!
The VB has two d-pads after all 🙂

did someone actually make a VB link cable then? and if so, do the existing games actually support it? i guess i could do some research and find out but i know you guys like to show off your expertise and who am i to deny you? lol

it makes sense tho, surely when they coded the games they were anticipating the link cable coming out, i mean the tennis game was surely made with that more in mind than the 1 player mode..

so yea, can u actually hook 2 VBs up to play together?

A commercial cable was never made. It was going to be made, but was never done before the vb was cancelled.

None of the commercial games supported the link cable..I always thought Tennis might..that the ROM had the information in it..but maybe one line was deleted. It turns out this isn’t the case.

Some of the hardware wizards here have figured out the cable and have constructed there own. And, there are some ‘how too’s’ on planetvb on how to do it. Some homebrew games have been designed to use the link cable..but they seem to be mostly demo’s.

DogP actually was thinking about making a cable to sell

I think if the cable becomes available ..the homebrew coders would start to make there games able to use this accessory. But, until then..it’s just demo’s and people making there own cables.

ah i see.. thanks for the low down. yea i knew no official cable was made, just wondered if the tech heads had figured it..
but im real surprised tennis and the other games that are obivously designed to be 2 player dont have it.. like space squash, waterworld, baseball, tetris, bomberman, they could all so easily have had 2 player code in anticipation of what, at the time, must have seemed like an inevitability.. the friggin 2 player cable!

damn, nintendo really screwed up with the virtual boy.. no news there, but of all the mistakes, im startin to think this was their biggest.

i mean the port is right there!!!

ok breath…. aaaaaand relax..

; )

well if you want 3D games on the vb then try sega master system games or maybe vetrex
