I have had a Front & Rear cart shell printed with Shapeways, got it last week, had to sort some other stuff before i could assemble it but heres some pics.
Quality is ok, it feels a little lightweight and like its gonna crumble in your fingers but it flexes and is actually quite strong. The cart inner fitted well, I should take some inner pics as the awesome pcb Minstorm made is also red and black and the whole thing looks real neat.
I need to tweak the model a little, it needs the hooks adding to the upper inner edge, noticed them missing when my parts arrived, they still work ok, I got email off efrog about this on the models i sent him and will get it sorted in the next few days and send him new models, so I would say if anyone is gonna get some done, hang fire til i got the models sorted.
Now i have only had a front & rear done, not the connector or dust cap so not sure on how they will come out but I’m quite happy with the shell.

(oh man i should have posted this on Sunday and done a double bluff April Fools, slacker)

…..and here are some inner pics.

I wonder if it could be polished or enhanced with some transparent acrylic paint…

Looks nice!

There are a lot of different materials, did you choose the “Red Strong and Flexible”? Wonder how it would look in “Black Detail”…

Yep the red strong flex was the stuff.
The texture is down to the detail they can achieve, the smallest wall thickness was 0.7mm and the smallest detail was 0.3mm for that material. I don’t think a layer of lacquer would help it, needs to be made to a finer detail.
I did submit these to http://www.mediacopy.co.uk, another company who do alot finer detail, 0.013mm, but the cost was about 5x as much, maybe more.
Shapeways stuff is good and does work but its just not quite detailed enough for my liking currently.
I can put the plain cart cases in my Shapeways shop if anyone did want to get some done, if you do i get a little bit of shop credit for each sold.
I’ll sort some blanks out and put them up then post a link to it here, I could add engraving if anyone wanted, just would need some details then i could make a model, upload it to shapeways and then whoever wanted could buy it from there.

My shapeways shop.
Got front & rear shells & dust cap in various materials.
Can add engraved detail if wanted, just let me know some info I’ll add it to a model and upload a special just for you (whoever you may be)

Man… I’ve been missing all kinds of cool stuff in my absence. Now if the connector was easily obtained (and cheap), we’d be all set! 😉
