The other night I turned it to Fox’s Animation Domination block. I figured since it’s been a while I would watch an episode of The Simpsons, used to I would watch it every week. But it just started going downhill, and I figured that since it’s been a little while maybe they’ve gotten a bit better than they have been. Boy was I wrong.

On the episode I watched. Lisa came up with a generic Facebook type of site. Then the entire town of Springfield became obsessed with it, and she regreted making the site. It was so boring, and nothing funny happened at all.

It’s like that with so many of the more recent episodes of The Simpsons. There was one episode from a few years ago, when Krusty the Clown was on a court trial. Bart and Homer watched and downloaded videos of Krusty doing good things from a Youtube type of site, to defend him in the trial. At the trial, a two minute or so discussion about DVD regions, and how they couldn’t watch the DVD because they didn’t have a region free DVD player began. Where you borad reading about that? Try watching that episode, and thinking about how good the show once was.

It’s like so many of the newer episodes use that type of humor, that I really couldn’t imagine anyone laughing at.

It seems like the only reason The Simpsons is even still airing new episodes, is because it’s been running as long as it has. The series should have ending around ten years ago, it was around then they started slowly going downhill.

Another series that I think is only airing now just because it’s been on for such a long time is Saturday Night Live.

I’ve never been a big fan of the show. I started watching it often in the ninties, and they were pretty enjoyable to watch back then. Molly Shannon, Will Ferral, Chris Kattan, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, and so many other funny people were cast members in the ninties, and most of the skits were really funny and enjoyable.

Now when you turn it to SNL, it seems like it’s mostly news/politic based skits. The series has always had it’s share of those type of skits, like Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford. But now it seems like 90% of the show is those type of skits. No matter what skits your watching, they’re almost all boring, and go on for to long.

There also just arn’t very many funny people on the cast anymore. Some of comedians you can really tell are trying, but don’t make people laugh like the cast members before them.

Whats everyone elses opions on this?

If you still enjoy these shows, I don’t mean to burst you bubble or anything. I also don’t hate these shows or anything, but also don’t care for them like I used to. This is just my opion, and it shouldn’t get in the way of you still enjoying these shows if you do.

Cant comment on SNL, its not big in the UK.
But as for the simpsons i do kind of agree. i just seems the same old crap, but i dont know if its just an age thing. I used to watch it all the time growing up but the real life kicks in (House/wife/kids) and mostly everything takes second best.

The problem with those shows is they have been going on for entirely too long and they have simply run out of material. It’s kind of like, they can do either things that may not be funny (or stupid jokes that people won’t really get) or they can do the same old same old…Just my two cents.

I must also agree that both shows have gone downhill over the years.

I used to watch Saturday Night Live all the time, back when people like Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Norm Macdonald, David Spade, etc. were on it. Now, I couldn’t even tell you who the current actors are because I don’t think I’ve watched a single episode for a few years. The show did get very dull and I just had no drive to try to watch it anymore.

The Simpsons show also isn’t quite what it used to be, but the Simpsons are in a different ballpark to me. I still try to regularly watch the show, and I would be very sad to see it go. The Simpsons are more like a part of the family that you just always have to stay in touch with to see what is going on in their lives. They may not be as funny or entertaining as they used to be, but they still have their good moments, and a stronger “bond” of sorts is connected with them as a solid family and community as opposed to Saturday Night Live that is just always a coming and going of various different actors.
