I already backed this project since this something I really want due to the fact that I still play with my old games/consoles quite often to this day. I decided to post this here since I dunno if there are others who are looking for something like this to help make their old games look better on the new TV screens.

there is comparison videos in the link above that is worth a watch as well.

The Genesis games look better than the SNES games do with the HD conversion, hopefully they work on the SNES ones a little more.

That’s a cool idea.

I do think it’s better to just get the SNES and Genesis set up with RGB cables. A SNES Mini can be modded easily out of the box, while the Japanese Megadrive at least already outputs RGB so you just need a good cable.

Once you have that, it’ll look even better than these cables and you can do it all now.

i think this is a really cool project. however, i don’t see that great of an improvement. while i still enjoy my old consoles, these days it is much more convenient to run emulators and output via hdmi. with filters and plug-ins i can achieve more desirable results, and everything is running on 1 system with a controller of my choice.

while emulation may not allow 100% of the games to function as they should, i’m still getting a great experience. i can still relive those memories. etc.

I know exactly what you mean! I can still easily relive my memories from all the classic games I love but I always love to see the differences between how the game looked way back then and comparing it today with whatever new updated technology/products that are available to the public.

I also agree that this project is indeed cool because again it may not be for everyone but it’s still nice to have this option if some gamers would like to see the small differences between the old and new products/cables/etc.

One game that I always have a habit of replaying ONCE a year no matter what is “Zelda A Link To The Past” because no matter how many times I replay that game, I always love it. I also try to challenge myself by trying to beat the game faster and faster if I feel like I’m up to it. So I am actually interested to see how Link to the Past will look once I get these new component cables in the mail.

It looks like this project is easily going to reach the funding goal since as of right now the project is literally $4,174 away from reaching the funding goal with 20 long days left! Woot!

Just to be curious, if you could replay any game you wanted with the new component cables that the KS project is offering, what game would you replay to the point where you actually beat the game again?

And to anyone else that is reading this comment, I would like to reask the same question that I asked Lester Knight. If you could replay any game you wanted with the new component cables that the KS project is offering, which game would you choose to play and why?

Oh shoot! One last thing I forgot to mention is that the KS component cable project just recently released a new update and this might be interesting for anyone that is still debating if they should back this project or not:

here is the link to the new update news
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hdretrovision/sega-genesis-and-super-nintendo-component-cables/posts/1047046

and the best part about the new update is that the project creator just recently created a Twitch account, here is the message they stated in the new update:
======================================
Finally, we have a Twitch.tv account that we’re streaming demos from all week. We’ll send out another update when we have official demos going on for certain games, but you can check out our channel here for impromptu sessions: http://www.twitch.tv/hd_retrovision
======================================

You can also send the project creator a message from his kickstarter page and request a certain game you would like the project creator to play with the new component cable.

I use RGB on PVM monitors for both of these systems. So I don’t expect much of an improvement.

I’ve not go a PVM yet, but that’s the dream – got RGB on both hooked up to a Trinitron, but can’t wait to get a PVM in some shape or form ,kicks ass over modern HDTVs! 😛

more new stretch goals added!

since the project has already reached the funding goal, the project creator adding interesting stretch goals!

$37K – Neo Geo R&D – The Neo Geo AES (home version) uses the same A/V port as the Genesis 1 cable, and we’ve already written our own custom test software for it. It was this software that allowed us to determine the Neo Geo signals would be too bright when used with the current cable design. If we reach this stretch goal, we will be able to buy different Neo Geo console revisions and thoroughly test them all to determine whether we can modify the circuit to accommodate this console via a switch. While we will make every best effort to successfully do this, we cannot guarantee this functionality due to the number of unknowns involved with varying console revisions.

$42K – Test Cartridge Art – All test cartridges will come labeled with art designed by Tom Wysocki, with personalization touches for the owner.

$50K
Level upgrades –

$150 / $275 Early Cable Packs – come with a Swag Pack.
$200 Production Run + Test Cart – can now opt for an Early Cable instead.
$350 Nerd Pack – add a production version of the cable.
$600 Ubernerd Pack – add a production version of both cables.
$1000 Founders Club – also will be rounded out to include production and early versions of both cables.

$60K – Sega Dreamcast R&D – At this level, we’ll be able to pour more research into full development of a Dreamcast component cable by writing test software, acquiring/testing more consoles, and implementing progressive-scan mode (for supported games). While we already have a rough prototype, there are a number of remaining issues to work out and we have not tested it on a variety of console revisions, such as PAL versions. While we can’t guarantee production of these due to unforeseen issues that may arise in development, hitting this level will guarantee we have the resources to begin working towards an actual product.

$70K – HDMIzer Development – We will hire an additional engineer to expedite development of the HDMIzer so that this product can be released more quickly, allowing the cables to work on televisions that don’t accept 240p signals from retro consoles. See description in this link: http://www.hdretrovision.com/future-products/

I’m getting on this a bit late, but I just picked up a semi off-brand SCART to component converter box. I’ve been too busy to test it because of holiday stuff and other modding projects…but I’m hoping to get on it this week because reviews all seemed to rave about the output quality. If it works, I plan on making special cables for each system that will plug into a custom jack that feeds into the SCART input. That would probably be cheaper and more organized than buying SCART cables for each system 0:)
