Hi, KR155E!

I know you have tons to do (both on the site and off) but I have a suggestion you should be able to add fairly quickly:

Your choice: 1) reduce the number of articles on the News page, or 2) make it a user-selectable option.

In case you make a fixed number, I think five would be a nice, round number. Of course, you can pick whatever works for you (or take a poll, or even toss a die :-P).

The main thing that slows down the site for me (mostly on my phone) is the fact that there are currently two articles with embedded YouTube videos. If you moved those “below the fold” and replaced them with a static screenshot, that would probably work as well, at the cost of a bit of convenience to those without nearly-decade-old PCs and dual-core phones πŸ˜€

Thanks for your hard work! (Although I know you practically consider it a hobby ;-))

A good suggestions, thanks! I have reduced the number of articles to 5 now. πŸ™‚

There’s an elegant solution for embedded flash videos: showing a screenshot of the video on the site, and embedding the video via javascript only after the user clicked on the screenshot. If the video starts instantly this would feel almost the same, except it would be much faster. Maybe I can build something for me that generates the needed img tag with js code and somehow gets a screenshots in the size of the video.

A mobile version of the site would be great… I usually check the forum updates with my phone during the day.

Excellent job, as usual. Thanks for the speedy response!

I’m sure you can pull it off πŸ˜‰

For the screen-shots, since it doesn’t need to be done all that often, I would just do it manually with “Print Screen” and IrfanView. Its “auto-crop” function (Strg+Shift+Y) would make it easy.

BTW, if you add the “/clippaste” option to the command-line of the shortcut you use to start IrfanView, it starts up with the clipboard image already loaded. All of this assumes you’re running some flavor of Windows, of course…

Nice post………………………………………,
