(Slight spoilers)

I know it’s a stretch, but the last stage of Super Mario 3D World (the last regular stage anyway) is a huge tower stretching into the clouds. Reminded me of Mario Clash! And when climbing up the tower, Bowser crashes through the wall occasionally to claw at you, reminded me of the fishes in the water stage of Wario Land…

Not that much of a stretch. There is a LOT of different Mario game references in it from the Mario Kart level, to the music at the slot machine from Super Mario Bros 2 or Doki Doki Panic. I’m sure developers have played Virtual Boy games, how couldn’t they have, especially if they work for Nintendo. If they say they haven’t, they’re lying, “cough”(Reggie}

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one who immediately thought of that when I got to the tower too. Then again, I’m always in good company here for things like this. 😛

But yeah, the game made a TON of references to others, though of course the Galaxy games certainly had much more of an impact. Certainly was nice to see some Mario World enemies roaming around again too.

This is the new Wii U game, right? Gotta get me one of those..

Super Paper Mario had more inside references than an entire season of Family Guy, though I don’t remember anything particularly Virtual Boy. I’d check it out if you like to catch subtleties like that.

Noticed the Tower as well. Also liked the Link easter egg.

I thought it was more coincidental. The level itself was really fun though and I played as Peach to sort of add insult to injury to Bowser when I completed the level.
