If you look at the second photo at the very bottom, you can definitely see バー, and it looks like the next character that is being cut off is チ. Thus, this could be part of “Virtual Boy,” in which case the book would actually contain some amount of Virtual Boy coverage, and the auction’s description isn’t just the seller’s attempt to draw VB fans to the auction.

Good eye, I didn’t even notice that.

I didn’t think the seller was pulling one on us, I just didn’t see anything about the virtual boy on the front and back covers. I would expect the book to contain stuff about the Virtual Boy, it’s just not very obvious from the choice of where they put it. Since the book is from 1997, maybe they didn’t want it so prominent since it was pretty soon after the VB’s failure in the market.

To clarify, that was my first impression when I saw the auction. The seller is certainly smart enough to know that Virtual Boy fans are more likely to go for a Gunpei Yokoi book than Game Boy fans, as there seem to be more Virtual Boy fans who actually know the name of the creator of the Virtual Boy, as opposed to Game Boy fans who usually just attribute the Game Boy to Nintendo in general.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised at all if a Japanese book about Gunpei Yokoi made in 1997 would completely avoid any mention of the Virtual Boy, as it seems that Japan’s reception of the Virtual Boy was much worse than that of North America’s. Nevertheless, it is good to see evidence that this book actually should contain Virtual Boy info, though the amount is probably very little.

If anyone here happens to bid on and win that auction, please submit the scans of Virtual Boy-related pages to this site. If nobody else translates the interesting segments that might be contained therein, it could be another project for me that I will eventually get to. (Yep, I still have plans to translate Virtual Fishing at some point).

It’s all so beautiful…. Time to start playing the lottery again!

Ohhhh my! How come these things only get sold now? Has it been the thought of being able to sell it for more than its money worth in gold or what?

Very cool find though and I hope a VB member gets away with it.

Wow, now that’s a good find!

Is this the first-known, official link cable ever to have surfaced at an auction?

Do it Robert! You know you want to. 😉

Sweet Lord!! This is my holy grail! I simply must have it at any price! But it seems they won’t ship internationally? Does anyone have a good experience with buyee or know of another good proxy service that can help with this?

I shouldn’t have posted about it..and just bought the sucker 😛

Instead of a bunch of us planning to bid..we should talk so we don’t raise the price to a silly amount.

All that I want is the official link cable. I imagine you will probably appreciate it as much as me, but just in case you don’t care too much about having an official link cable, I will say that if you win the auction and are willing to part with the link cable, I will buy it from you at a high price. 🙂

I’m all about officialness.

Bad news for all of you bidding on it, news of this auction just ended up on GBAtemp as well:

I hope it ends up in the hands of a member here, come on, your wallet can do it! 😉

Does anyone who is familiar with yahoo auctions know how to contact the seller? Ive used buyee’s and google’s page translations and cant find that option anywhere. Thanks.
