I posted the link for this auction in The Noteworthy Auction Thread a couple of weeks ago. I ended up winning the auction and would now like to add it to my collection of Threads…

I have to say, this has got to be the crispest, most unfolded Virtual Boy Box out there! Not just because it’s unfolded and unused, but because the finish on this box is super super glossy as if it were just made today, and has never had a registration card, or a Duracell Battery offer sticker ever placed on it.

It’s like a frickin’ museum piece! (to me anyway) these pictures dont do it justice.

I had to ask the seller how he acquired such an awesome piece, and he told me he got it from a former Nintendo employee that had worked for the company for over 20 years. He said the employee rescued it from being thrown away along with a NES, SNES, N64, and a EarthBound box, all unfolded and never used.

It’s a little awkward trying to display this thing. I cant leave it lying flat, cant just lean it on something, so I mite just make a custom display case for it. One that will make it stand up on its own but at the same time protect it from any foreign objects that may come in contact with it…

Glad to see (and figured) this would go to a PVB member! It looks awesome and nice to learn the history on this piece.

A display case would be great. Please share pics if you do. Congrats! 🙂

Regards,
Jim

I would frame it. If you want to see both sides, frame it with two of those plexi frames. The ones with the 4 plastic things you slide to form the edges of the frame. Just don’t use the cardboard backer, use the second piece of plexi.

If your’re in the states, the art supply store Michaels has 50% coupons all the time. https://www.michaels.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-MichaelsUS-Site/default/Coupons-ViewCoupons?storeid=

That’s awesome! It’s cool to see how these type of things happen. It’s great to know that there is a history behind these items. I always find it interesting.

That’s a good idea. Thanks for the tip, there’s actually a Michaels not to far from me at all,

I’ll let you know how everything goes.

It just begs to be scanned somehow. The scans we currently have have the Duracell sticker and a few wrinkles.

I agree with HorvatM. If you don’t have access to a large format scanner, get a good camera with a macro mode and a ring light. If you take lots of overlapping photos of both sides, we can stitch them all together into one, big, high-res photo.

Im working on finding a way to get this done. I’ll post the scans as soon as they’re ready.

It should be scanned. Why does the one already scanned have the duracell sticker?

Well, the vast majority of all North American retail boxes had these stickers placed on them before being put out for sale, so if a collector, who happened to acquire one that never had the sticker or that had the sticker carefully removed, doesn’t make scans of such and submit the scans to the site, the site just has to go with what it’s got.

Nice pull dude.

Thanks man.

very nice!
If you can, find a copy shop or print house with a large scanner and let it scan in 600DPI.
That is a very good chance to preserve this box in such a condition.
