Around May 16′, i spent a week or so on a project which involved cannabalizing a VB controller to wire into a USB decoder. The point of this undertaking was to get a “fightstick” or arcade controller working with Hyper Fighting. After some hiccups with solder pads lifting, using light traces, and the fact that the decoder could perhaps use a bit more voltage, every PS3/XB360 controller i have used works A-OK with it, even with converters (PS3 to PS2, etc.), with no delay whatsoever.

I honestly forgot to post about this little endeavor of mine until now. It would be pretty sweet to link play another HF owner, see how this pits against a mere controller 😀

Check it out !

Damn that’s a lot of work. I just did the SNES adapter route and used a SNES advantage stick. Nice job.

Holy crap, that looks like an insane amount of work. Naïve me thought I’d just see an arcade stick with a VB controller end on it somehow. Truly insane, I wonder if the aesthetic of just a regular arcade stick with VB controller guts can be achieved. Love to see that 🙂

Thanks guys, i’m glad you appreciate the result 🙂

Indeed an arcade stick with the guts can be relatively easily achieved. One would just wire a common ground and the according signals for the buttons to the VB controller PCB. Hell, the VB controller PCB would fit in pretty much any enclosure. You could even custom wire it to a Neutrik RJ45 adapter for a clean look.

Biggest obstacle would be figuring out where the powerpak stands in the build.

Hey this is really cool. I plan to do this hopefully later this year depending on finances (will be getting a VB instead of a Switch). I have some questions that will probably lead into more questions. Mind if I run them by you? For starters, how have your results been? Thanks!

Thanks! Not a problem ask away.

Results have been good – every fightstick I own works, powered or non.

Nice. What are you doing to accommodate the power supply, put an extension port on the outside of the fight stick box? Also what are your ideas for the right D pad, will you be installing a second stick?

The construction of my joystick continues and I have hit a huge snag in the design. It’s a multitude of issues that could be approached from several directions. Maybe chatting things out with you might help flesh out the final design.

I actually didn’t do anything about the PSU. I simply left it as-is and let it just pass through the controller, out to the system as normal, snap off when not in use.

Being that I have no intent on using the fightstick with every VB game, I really don’t ever intend on messing with some Sega Twinstick like design. Some games recognize both d-pads (ex. Panic Bomber, Vertical Force) and that’s enough for me.

For a clean design which is what I’m after, would you recommend putting the controller pcb inside the fightstick chassis?

My thinking is to somehow find a way to “adapt the adapter” to some sort of external port on the stick chassis as well as the controller to system cord.

sorry for the mega delay – i dont visit here but every so often!

For sake of aesthetics, yes. Id shoot to put it inside if that is your goal, as the end result can be a mess to organize.
